i'm likin those MTG's...i think they're called guard dog M/T's or something

 

I have 2k on my 31x10.5 guard dog M/T tires, they are holding up great, did a couple of small off road trips and no chunks have come off, I aired them down last weekend too 15psi which is not recommended in the paperwork and they held up great. I really like them. I think you will be happy.

 

Im getting the 265/75R16 WARDEN A/T I loved my old bfg AT and they literally might have 10% tread left on them so this seemed to be the next best thing without dropping like $700. Plus being a poor college student i had to go with the cheaper option. The only ran me about $450 with shipping and everything. Hopefully I will get them tomorrow and then go up to work and mount them jokers on!

 

retreaded tires???? i don't know, how well do they hold up on long, over the road trips?

 

treadwrights have great reviews, I did alot of research before purchasing mine.

 

I searched high and low for a bad review, couldnt find anything. The only 2 I did find were where rubber was chipping off like an eraser would do and the company sent out a new set for free, syaing they were swithing companies who produced the rubber. And the second one, I cant remember what was wrong but treadwright again sent out another set for free. A lot of people seem to give retreads a bad rap because of all the pieces of tires laying all over the interstates. But these do come from trucks that holds load our suvs or trucks will ever carry and they also travel many more miles than we ever will, even on a roadtrip. All govt vehicles run retreads, to keep the cost of tires down. So i feel pretty comfortable in buying these plus they do have a warranty on them. So im happy to be their customer.

A bunch of folks have bought and used these tires on here, with great results. Including myself. I read the FIRSTHAND reviews, not a bunch of people thinking they are experts, but have never run these tires spouting a bunch of nonsense. The only thing I ever heard from them was how semi trucks had recapped tires and they failed.

I got the guard dog MT's, Which is a direct knock off of the original Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's. I even got the correct casings, most people have no idea they are Treadwrights.

Only knock on em is that they are heavy and have hurt my MPG's. But thats bc I bought a mud terrain tire, and not bc Treadwright did anything wrong. They have performed well, and held up even better. Especially for the money, these were a good deal.

pep boys has definity tires buy 3 get one for a penny right now. I don't trust these retreads, especially if that guy is right and they don't rec airing down these tires.

 

I will look more into retreads, but I have been told by a lot of people that retreads are illegal on cars, is that true? And I know the government doesn't use them, they actually get rid of the cars instead of putting tires on them

 

point taken....if you are gonna imperil yourself after using them aired down then certainly I understand. for me, I have my street tires and my off-road ones, so it's not an issue. otherwise as a daily tire, I see no problem.

 

Retreads are only illegal on OTR truck and busses as front tires. Passenger cars and trucks are fine with Retreads.

I had a set of these tires many years ago, when the mud tire was based on the Remington Mud Brute. A great inexpensive tire that never let me down.

 

The treadwright will do nicely they have come a long way with retreads in the past years.

As far as PepBoys stay clear of them and go to a local tire shop. I looked into this a while back and yes you get the 4th tire for free or a penny. But what they don't tell you is the cost for mount and balance, road hazard, and tire disposal. Get all the details and get the price "Out the door" then go to a local guy and I'll bet the local shop will be cheaper.

I hate PepBoys!!! Just a lousy shop but thats just me.

Insurance companies have been known to deny claims after discovering you have retreads.Might want to read your policy.I would never buy retreads or out of date tires.ABC news 20/20 did a story couple years ago on outdated tires being sold as new.The "New"tires were seperating because of dry-rotting from the inside out,killing people.

 

Yeah Matt, I sell tires and I've went into our stockroom and looked at some DOT numbers and I found some that had three digit dot numbers, I won't sell them

 

Most tire manufactors don't recommend you air down, at least up till I bought my tires 3 years ago. So things may have since changed. Most simply pointed out the recommended psi when asked about airing down.

 

I believe the recaps for big rigs is a different proccess than the retreads, mine have been fine even after air down, they just wont warranty them if you air down, but i bet alot of tires wont warranty there tires if you been airing down. only complaint I have is I should have gotten 33 inch tires for more clearance.

Im unconvinced even after reading the gov. endorsement.When has the gov. ever been the go to guy?um never! lol.They think we are all stupid mindless sheep.Recycling is great but not when it comes to tires.To each his own,but not with my life.I will buy new even if Im broke and cant eat.
