I suggest BFG All terrians for a classic clean look and good performance, for a long life tire that will be a lil pricey go with a Nitto or a Toyo AT, Cooper also makes a good tire from my experience, Of course im an MT kinda guy.
I have Goodyear Kevlar Wrangler MTR's and would never buy another set. Took one set back because 3 out of 4 were out of round and impossible to balance.
2nd set was a little better. If the truck sits for a week it is like driving on a set of bias ply tires.
Here is a picture of my spare, mounted on a brand new rim that was checked as true before the tire was mounted. It also took a ton of lead
Goodyear Kevlar MTR'S are one of my biggest mistakes
I've never heard of bigO but I hear the goodyears wear fast. Idk the wrangler just seems like a walmart tire. Goodyear makes a good car tire maybe not for LT.
Dropzone, would you avoid the regular Wranglers after your experience with the MTRs?
I have heard similar experiences with the MTR's As mine.
That being said I know several people that have had great experience with the Goodyear Duratracs, I probably would have gone that route but didn't want to go to a 16 or 17" rim. I would consider them since they seem like a good double duty tire since they seem like a good cross between an MT and an AT
Goodyear "Wrangler" isn't a specific tire, it's a division of their brand for "rugged" tires. under the "wrangler" name GY makes: MTR, Duratrac, Silent Armor, Authority, and a few other non-aggressive all terrain street tires.
I have the GY Duratracs on my 100-series Land Cruiser in a 285/75-16 E-rated tire. I do like them a lot, and got them because they were new at the time and seemed like a nice "hybrid" or very aggressive AT tire that nobody else was offering back then. I want to say I have around 50k on these tires and am now somewhere around 8-9/32 of tread leftover - perhaps another 30k? They've held up amazingly well for street use but I don't take my Cruiser out in anything hardcore and can't comment on the issues that many complain about regarding weak sidewalls and slicing them up on boulders and sharp rocks. I have, however, noticed they do have a rather soft sidewall which is noted by increased body roll on the road - this was resolved by upping tire pressure into the low 40s. I think the E-rated also helped stiffen them up, but the almost 6000lb pig using them doesn't help either. I'm sure that a C-rated 33x12.5-15 would be super soft and likely where lots of complaints come from regarding the sidewalls. Balance-wise, these tires are pretty good and don't have nearly as much weight as the MTRs Dropzone pictured. Sound is obviously going to increase over a street tire and I only hear them when going 35+mph. Definitely rotate them regularly, I've been doing like 5k+mile intervals and it's too much time in between and I've noticed some cupping starting to happen.
As much as I like these tires, I will likely go a different route with the next set. Lots of nice "hybrid" style ATs to choose from these days - like Cooper ST Maxx, the new BFG ATs, Toyo ATs, Nitto TGs, etc etc. Also, I'm not really a huge fan of the sidewalls on the Duratracs - it looks aggressive but doesn't seem to actually function IMO unless you're running through mud. I'd have expected them to stiffen up the sidewall or provide extra resistance to rocks and punctures, but it doesn't seem like it actually is. I think my next tire will be the Toyo ATs in the Extreme version.
