Studs vs. Blizzaks

With winter here and the roads getting icier and icier, My mud terrain tires are starting to make me more nervous about driving on the roads. They do seem to be better n the ice than my old street Uniroyal Laredo tires, but sometimes I just get nervous about not having good enough tires. Not to mention they need to get rebalanced and they are 33x12.5s.
Anyways, I've been debating getting 31x10.5 studded tires for my 4runner, but now, I found these: http://fairbanks.craigslist.org/pts/2040939442.html . 31x10.5x15 Blizzaks, one of the best ice tires. I used to use studded tires. Then, when I moved out of my mom's house, I used BFG All Terrain ta/kos. Those were great on snow and ice. Now, with my 2nd gen 4runner, (no ABS) last winter I just used the Uniroyal Laredo tires that were on it for the winter. They were...okay...
Whats your opinions on Blizzaks vs studded tires for vehicles without ABS? I know ABS isnt the end-all, be-all of safety and stopping ability on ice, but there is always that jerk that slams on his brakes while in front of me and i need to be able to stop better...

First off, i'd really recommend whatever you go with, get them as narrow as possible. The narrower the tire the more friction you can create because the ground pressure increases. Same reason they put those huge tires on those big rigs that run on the tundra on the slope.

Blizzaks are pretty sweet but loose their space age, super awesome compound somewhere around 50% or something like that so if the ones your looking at are very worn, pass on 'em.

I just put on 235/75-15 Hankook I*Pike W409s from Alyeska. Its on a pickup with some weight in the back (about 300lbs. actually) so pretty comperable to your rig. They are WAY BETTER than the BFG Winter Slaloms that I took off. 4x4 isn't even really necessary now, cool bonus but the tires are so grippy on ice you don't hardly notice it. The tread is quite deep and did great in the 6" of snow we just got, again, 2wd was more than enough to get around town.

Hope this helps!
