Recommend some agressive DD tires

I've rocked Goodyear MTRs for my last three tire sets. Love them. Overall, I've had great experience with the MTRs —˟over tens of thousands of miles, and trails all around, no flats, no tears, no issues. Okay, maybe one —˟this third set of mine has been tough to keep in balance.

But I have to admit, I hardly wheel anymore.

So it's time for new tires. I'm going on shopping with these factors
- Will mostly use on the street, but want tires capable of handling the occasional off-road trip
- Looking for a somewhat aggressive look
- Wouldn't mind quieter, longer-lasting tires than MTRs
- black out

I'm shopping for the size 315/75/16.

I'm kinda defaulting to BFGoodrich All-Terrains, but am curious what those who have been paying attention to this sort of thing the past few years think.

I'll be going with the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs for my next tire.

Great reviews, decent tread life, aggressive as hell but supposedly have good on-road behavior.

The other tire I've seen getting good reviews is the Hankook ATM series. Cheap, fairly aggressive, great treadlife, and just overall a good tire.

I'm digging the DuraTracs, unfortunately they aren't offered in my size.

BFGoodrich Rugged Trail A/T's. Great traction on/off road, minimal road noise, long life.
Im running these and i will be sticking with BFG's for my next tire.

x2 my dad has them on his f150 and my buddy has them on his tundra and another has them on his silverado, they are an amazing tire that dig and clean better than most tires ive ever seen. thats what i will probably be getting next in the 32 inch flavor. and their cheap for how agressive they are.

the atm rf10 is a decent tire but don't clean all that well in mud. if you want a tire in that type i would go with the terra grappler if they make them in that size

i have duratracs on my 100 series and they are i'm getting close to 20k on them and they have so far done great and i have no complaints. i have had them on pretty much all terrains except for thick, goopy, peanut butter-consistency mud. mostly it's because i don't want to get stuck in that stuff with my low-clearance and a-trac; but who knows, maybe the DTs will pull me through?

anyways, my rig weighs over 5k pounds and the cruiser also has full-time 4wd - so i run the 285/75/16, E-rated tires. i have worn around 4-5mm (1/8"+) and still have tons of tread left. i run them somewhere around 45psi on the road. offroad, usually i just leave them - but i have brought them down into the low 20s when i bring my air comp.

sure, lots of people have bashed these tires - but i decided to bite the bullet and get them, and so far have been happy. BUT - had i waited a little bit longer and had i known about the redesigned Cooper ST that are now out, i would have been on the fence and possibly would have gone toward the cooper.

DTs :

Oh man, I swear I couldn't find my size DuraTrac's on the Tirerack site. But I found them at a local shop, and the out-the-door price is a little over $100 more than the All-Terrains.

Hmmm, decisions...

I drive mostly highway, with the possibility of an infrequent off-road trip, and snow a few times a year. I like the DuraTracs, but I'm thinking right now the All-Terrains would be the more practical option.

EDIT: Haha, NOPE! Just kidding!
Okay, after a bit more research, I'm kinda sold on the DuraTracs. Plus I found them for a bit less AND I'm a fan of Goodyear anyway. So, win win.

Tread Lightly! members get a $100 Manufacturer Mail-In Rebate on any Goodyear tire until 1/2012. If you aren't a member now, it's only $25 to join. $75 is $75 and it's a great cause anyway.

I'm hoping I can swing a set before it ends!

^for real. I can't believe so many people swear by them; and EVERYBODY and their brother seems to run them. Sure they last a long time, but you gotta embrace tire technology and those are seriously due for changes.

Btw, calrock - the DTs ARE all terrains.

I was talking to stockwell45 and he told me his had runs DTs on his jeep and has 50k on them @1/2 tread.

Cooper ST Maxx or the Cooper AT3. Don't know if they come in a size you want but the Maxx is a real nice aggressive AT, moreso than the BFG AT. The AT3 is more similar to the BFG AT.

The ST Maxx is on my truck now and is a great all-around tire for a DD....

BFG Rugged FAILS, BFG ATs were partially responcible for putting me in a ditch (that and inexperience) and BFG KM2s other then being offered in any size and not a very good mud tire.

I have excellent experience with Goodyears. Stay away from silent armours as they don't last as long as they should and have terrible offroad traction. The MT-R is an awesome mud tire, but loud on road, and the Duratrac's are a fantastic tire. We use morely Goodyears on your trucks at work.

Even a Michilen tire is decent. If way over priced.

ok BFG's have bad rain traction. now lets think about this; toyotas do not come from the factory with really wide tires, but if you put wider tires on there with so little weight as the toyota has the tire picks up rain and slides. this happens with any wide tire. i run BFG's i love everything about em'. i pulled through the same mud hole that another toyota(with lockers) got stuck in running Nitto mud grapplers. so you cant say any thing bad about their mud traction either.

I love my Nitto Trail Grapplers but I don't think they make a tire for a 16" rim.

Dunno if the OP is still looking or already made up mind, but for what its worth I am running Cooper Discoverer STT's and they have been great. Since we have had some amazing drought conditions around home, I haven't attempted mud, but they behave very well on pavement and dry off-road conditions. The couple of times it has rained here recently the tires held very well on pavement.
Good luck and happy buying any way it goes.

A friend of mine got some good treadwear out of the Toyo A/Ts. I liked they way they rode, and they were quiet. They didn't clean out very well though.
