Pics: BFG A/T Mud tire? What is this?
Hi all. My buddy just had these installed on his 4runner. They say BFG A/T KO on the sidewall yet have a much more aggressive tread similar to the BFG M/T. Anyone know what these are? I never knew BFG made an in between tire like this. Anyone have more info on this? What's the tread life like? How is it in the snow compared to the "normal" A/T's? Anyways... here are the pics:

31x10.50's. Dude... I was just as amazed when he pulled up with these! Crazy huh? The tire center he bought them from had like a whole stock of these. I'm thinking of trying them. Not sure yet though. Want some more opinions.

Ya I'm goin with probably a screw up, its weird to have the main mold line with 2 secondary lines one on each side) maybe they f-ed up the mold somehow...or maybe its a pilot design for a new tire???

But if it is a screw up would they be able to sell them? And have a lot of them in stock? Doesn't seem like they would with all the ˟˟˟˟ tires companies get... I dunno weird

Man... this is weird just like you said. I'm going to have to go the shop and get the DL on this tire. The buddy who owns this said the guy told him they were "All-Terrain/Mud-Terrains". I'm thinking they're a re-tread or something. I doubt they'd let some local shop sell a prototype. Damn, if their ligit... put me down for a set. Also, the shop sold them for about $350 installed (all 4). Seems pretty cheap for BFG's.

Retreads!!!!!!!!!!
You can see the new thread glued to it, that is why they look so strange.
I would not trust those tires, especially since the sidewalls will not be as strong as the M/T. Also the fact when you air down there will be a lot more stress on the "glued" treads, which I can gaurantee you is not as strong as the factory. If wheeled or driven hard I would almost bet money he will loose at least the thread on one tire. Those things dont even look like a proper rethreading job.
Retreads are normally done on normal pasenger tires that is not driven fast and have a low stress level. There they perform fine. But as an M/T, I dunno.

So with all this said... is that legal for a shop to do?
Did they tell him that they were re-thread?
Seems kind of screwed up to me... could hurt someone
I'd be weary of those...

they do look like a recap, but its very hard to tell over a picture on the internet... i do know from what the magazines have said that they are redesigning the bfg mud terrain and it looks like the current krawler, maybe this is part of the new line?

I'm pretty sure the guy didn't say anything about the tires being re-treads. I'm just going to go over to the shop and ask the guy what these tires are about. I'm interested to know. You also would think that if these were a new prototype that they'd say something other than "BFG A/T KO" on them.
