Newer Tacoma/4runner rims on '85 truck

I am looking to install these aluminum wheels on my '85 pickup. I did already search the forums, and found some pics and info regarding spacers, etc. Since there are multiple widths available, I am wondering if anyone who has done this can tell me exactly what set-up/width of spacer(s) I need, and if there are any general complications fitting these on the old trucks. I would like to keep this process as cheap as possible. I spent hours refinishing and clear coating the wheels before I even fit-tested them on the truck! Oops! Also, My stock wheels are the same width across, 16" rim to rim, and the tire size is P235 75R/15, so I assume these aluminum rims are also considered 15's...? They are 8" wide. Thanks for the advice. -Steve

I am assuming those are 15" Tacoma rims.

I can't speak of their fitment on a solid axle rig, but I have had a set of those, a set of the 16" rims in the same style, and now 16" 5 stars from an '01 4Runner without ANY fit problems or backspacing issues. So I guess you just need to find out what the backspacing difference was between 85 and 86.

Now that I think of it. The reason I got the 15's in the first place was bc the calipers couldn't clear the inside of the rim. The PO of the rims was a kid that worked at Toyota and got the take off set on a trade in. He threw em on his SA pickup and couldn't pull it out of the driveway. I didn't see his pickup, so I can't tell you if it was an 84/85, or it was an earlier generation pickup.

And welcome to Yotatech, happy reading!!

You need 1" spacers to clear front...nothing more. Rear spacers will compliment the front. So think/buy x4 and you'll be set.

IFS OEM alloys do not fit Solid Axle Toyotas without wheel spacers. Period.

spacers

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I did notice that backing the wheel off from the hub in front just a tiny bit (an inch or less) made it not rub on the steering joint and brake caliper. But still, what a tight clearance! I've been lookin' on Ebay, and this one dude sells a pair of 1.25" spacers for $57 shipped. i'll probably go this route and try one set for the front first and see if the difference front/back is super noticable. Wabbit, wanna match their price?
