Newb question about ifs rims on sfa....
Tried searching but for the love of pete could not find it...I was always under the impression you needed wheel spacers to put a sfa rims on an ifs truck or else the calipers would interfere....now after searching it seems you need wheel spacers to put ifs rims on a sfa truck.
Can somebody tell me what you need wheel spacers for and what length? And my objective is to take the stock rims and tires off of my 85 and put them on my 88 temporarily **cough cough, NJ Inspection Cough**
thanks!! and sorry for asking a question that i KNOW i saw on here before, but i cant find it

wheel spacers are for when people do solid axle swaps. people like to go with the 1986 and up rear axle housings because they are 3" wider overal compared to the pre 86. so when you have to use a pre 86 toyota front housing for a solid axle,(which is all there is) wheel spacers in the front make your tire widths the same in the front as the rear.

But if you try to put IFS wheels (w/ 4.75" backspacing) on a solid axle which typically uses 3.375" backspaced wheels, the added backspacing causes the inside edge of the wheels to hit the steering arms on the front axle. You typically need to space the wheels out (1.5" is popular) or run wheels with 3.75" or less backspacing to clear the steering arms on the front axle. So basically you can't put IFS wheels on a stock solid front axle without some sort of spacer to move the wheels out.

hmm, so in that case i can use the solid axle wheels on my independant suspension? But i just cant drive my solid axle truck with the ifs rims on it....
and no need for spacers here, its just temporary, and i dont mind driving with my rear axle being wider for just a couple days.
i just cant wait to see how low my low gear will be with 5.29's and 28"s
