New member - tire/wheel size question

Hi everyone, I am new to 4runners and this forum. I am not new to wheeling and hardcore offroad tech, as I came from a 05 wrangler rubicon unlimited. I am currently getting a 95 4runner as a cheaper option while in school.

It is a stock 95 4Runner 4x4, with stock 15s. (not the typical style, but they are different and look like they may be enkei?)

I have a set of 4 285/75/16 tires and want to use them on the truck. I don't mind trimming a bit if I need to, but will these fit well? I also want to know what 16'' wheel options I have, and what backspacing is good. I am usually a fan of OEM wheels (quality and usually hub centric) but let me know what is good.

This runner is in need of the head gasket replacement and I will be starting on that Friday. Thanks for any advice!

Did you happen to see the giant sticky at the top of this section ?

Plenty of people have squeezed 33's under their trucks without trimming , some need a mild lift and a pinch weld pounding .

16x8 rim with 3.75" backspacing.

The tires are going to rub. A 33x10.5 will fit on factory rims with minimal rubbing, if any. A 33x12.5 will rub. A 285/75/16 is roughly a 33x11.5 tire. I'd say they will rub a bit. If they don't, I'll be surprised.

Just hammer and trim

4runner and tacoma wheels are mostly inter-changeable- But can 2010 20" limited oem 4runner wheels fit on a 99 4runner? I have tried to google it, bing it and most of the times it brings me back to this forum (hence now i am a new member). I would appreciate any advice-thank you!

whatever you do, make sure that you understand hub centric vs. lug centric... which does the stock wheel have, and what does the replacement wheel have, make sure that you have the correct lug nuts for the wheel.

tire selection in both 20" and 16" is going to be limited and/or expensive... 17" is the way to go, if you can get the right wheel.

Thanks man-did the research and it fits like a glove-backspacing was perfect, with the new tires i went up an inch and my speedo is off a bit-other than that-i cant complain. Also people wanted to much for the 2004+ 17", so for the same price i went with dubs.
