I'm running the Maxxis Bighorns, 32x11.5x15. Only have about 3000 miles on them. Good traction when aired down and relatively quite ( for a mudder ) on the highway. I'd buy them again.

Bah, I lied. According to the maxxis website this tire would fall under the "light truck" category and a 8 ply tire BUT - I just read the really small print on the tire itself and it says 2 ply sidewall.

Ohwell. At least they come from maxxis with a road hazard warranty if I puncture a sidewall.

Put the tires to the first offroad test yesterday - and they worked very well on the dirt & rocks. Had them aired down to 17psi and you can see they flex was good - conforming nicely around this rock...

so far...

oh and notice only 1 weight on the rim! my MTR's had about 4 or 5 weights per rim.

mor pics of this trail run here...

These Bighorns are lookin more and more promising...I will definitely be keeping an eye on these! The tires I have now are pretty much brand new so, it'll be a little while before I can warrant spending the $$ on new tires but when that day comes, Maxxis is where I will look to first!

Keep the tests coming on those BigHorns!

I just had them rotated/blanaced with about 9000K miles on them and they are wearing very well. I had a vibration/shimmey at about 60mph but an alignment and rebalanceing fixed that. They are still very quiet on road - for a MT.

I am pleased with them both on and offroad. But I'm not the most demanding driver on my tires. But so far, dry road, wet road, offroad dirt and rocks all seem to be handled very well by this tire. The only thing I really havn't had them in is deep mud or deep snow.

So, yes I like them. However, it's really it's hard to review or recommend a tire, especially the offroad performance, when I'm not on the trail all the time or could easily swap one brand of tires to another under the same conditions. When I lose traction on an obstacle I don't know if it's the new tires or any number of other circumstances that are different from the last time I ran the obstacle.

I'll take a few more pics of the tires this weekend. Hope that helps.

I completely understand... there are sooooo many variable that affect traction. I guess for me the bottom line is this: Would you buy them again?

Jim, we did have a good holiday - thanks. Hope yours was good too!

jeremys73 - I got about 45K out my MTR's.

Jackson - I would buy them again, as of right now. We'll see how they fair in another 9K and another wheeling season.

Hi Mojo_Risin, I was wondering how the tires are holding up for you? It's been about a year for you I think. I'm in the market for tires and I'm looking at these Bighorns pretty closely, but there isn't much info out there regarding how well they wear. Thanks! Chuck...

Chuck - as far as wear - they seem to be wearing really well. No uneaven treads, no real problems. I think I'm at about 16K right now and still have significant amount of tread left. Not sure of the actual numbers in 32nd's but here's a pic of them currently (I used a quarter for reference)...

Close up:

I am still pleased with them, and for a daily driver rolling MT's I think they are holding up great. Offroad they have been good enough for me and have held up under lots of conditions. All and all -- so far so good:

Mojo-Risin, how do they do in the typical Colorado highway snow and ice? I'm looking for an MT with road manners.

Haaa. "typical Colorado highway snow and ice" is a thing of the past here in colorado. Seems like winters have been waaaay to mild the last few years - especially in Denver - and i don't get up into the mountains much during the winter (can you believe that!!) So, i can't really comment on their snow and ice performance. I'd probably get them siped if I knew I was driving on ice / snow alot - and they have the holes for adding studs - so that would also be an option to make the traction even better.

sorry not much help in that regards.

Not really much to update since 4 months ago - just a few more thousand miles on them. I still like the tires but have a feeling I'll try a different tire when these are done. But since they are wearing pretty good - that won't be for a while.
