military tires
hey guys i was wondering if any of you were running military tires? the wrangler MT/OZ or humvee tires?? theres a local dealer that can get me a set of 90% tread 37" for $350 or bias 36" for $300..and IIRC bias is better for offroad/ airing down right?? but anyways if i can sell my ford motor im prolly going to go this route...what do you guys think?

It's a good deal for that size of tire. Keep in mind two things
1. you'll need a set of 6 lug 16.5" rims, which can be had, but aren't just laying around
2. This is an extremely heavy setup and you should see the corresponding wear in front end components, gas mileage, and potential axle breakage.

yea they do come off the bead easy. Military tires are meant to be tough and stiff for heavy loads. Not a good offroad tire, would be alright on a fullsize truck, you could just do beadlocks to keep em on

yeah was kinda worried about the stiffness...im sure i can break em driving around the block at like 4psi the thing is i dont wanna go stupid expensive on tires cuz my lincoln locker is just going to ruin em fairly quick..

The MT's are very hard compound tire and don't offer good traction in the wet. think 4wheel drift in a humvee in the rain... They also stay stiff when aired down on a light truck. they also load up with Mud very quickly and don't clean out very well with out wheel speed.
The RTII's (bias ply ones) are horrible in the Mud. they have a very straight ribbed tread design. when you look at them think about a steer tire for a tractor... it will make sense when you see them. they are better than the MT's for street driving long distances though.. at least in a Humvee.
