Falken Rocky Mountain ATS
Anybody running the Falken Rocky Mountain ATS? Saw the video with the FJ but kinda wanted some non vendor input. Looking at some 285/75/16's. Thanks

To the OP. I do not have the Rocky Mountain, also known as the Wildpeak. I have the High Country AT's made by them and really like them. They have been a great all around tire and have served me well from daily commuting to the desert out in Death Valley. Their price is hard to beat as well.

Really, how do you know? Do you have experience with these tires or is it because they are not a mainstream vendor you think they are not good.

I have them on both my 86 pickup 4x4 (30x9.50-15) and my 97 4Runner (265/75-16E). On the 86, I have about 5,000 miles on them which includes 2 trips to Death Valley where the performed flawlessly. On the 4Runner, I have about 1,500 miles. I've driven the 4Runner once in snow with these and was very impressed. They felt very sure-footed. I've also found that these tires are really good in the rain and are pretty quiet (compared to the 285/75R16 BFG MT KM2's they replaced). If I get 40k miles out of these I will be happy. I think they can go more than that though!

Here in Sacramento they are 775 out the door at discount tire for a 285/75/16 which is way less than any BFG or Goodyear I've looked at. They are really highly rated by Discount and Les Schwab by customers and the staff. They have a 50,000 mile warranty and are supposed to be great on road and off. I dont really want an MT and these are pretty aggressive looking for an AT.

Im Running the Falken Wild Peak (Rocky Mountain is just the discount tire version, but they are identical) in a 32x11.50 r15 And I love them so far. Ive got around 1k on them so far and have no complaints. They do tend to pick up rocks tho (still catches me off guard sometimes lol) Offroad they preform pretty well, I havent tried mud yet with these tho... Theyre very quiet on the street and are only really audible between 15-30 mph Ive noticed. The ride is alot better than my old Procomp X-Terrains too

Anyone try the 35x12.5 version yet? My BFG AT's have dry rotted before the tread even wore half way so I'm looking at getting some new tires. How about dealing with discount tire direct? I've never ordered tires offline so I'm a little hesitant...

I just put a set of the Falken Wildpeaks on my truck.
I love BFG's but I didn't want to spend $1000.00 on tires so I thought I would try these.
I only have a few hundred miles on them but they are quiet on the road and worked really well off road in the sand yesterday.

Falken in Clay
I just put on the Falken 265/75/16 tires on a '97 4runner. In Arizona, we run across everything from decaying granite, schist, mud, clay. With the rain we received last night, the one area i needed to go was of course, clay. The Falkens tread clogged quickly and would not clean itself, even with spinning the tires to clear the tread. The clay was an estimated average of about 1 inch to 1.5 inches deep. The tires seemed to do well on the rocks and mud road i was also on, but when it came to the clay, it stopped them dead in their tracks. Does anyone know of a good tire for clay? sincerely, Michael

The tires were stiff, which I could have handled. I switched the tires to Hankook Dynapro ATM and the Hankooks did not clog up like the Falkens. I ran the Hankooks through the same pace as the Falkens and the Hankooks outperformed the Falkens. I sure did like the tread pattern of the Falkens though; too bad the tread pattern just didn't work for the clay!

Red clay sticks in about everything though, least from my experience. I went ahead and got a set and am very impressed so far. Really brought out my runner. Supposed to get a good rain soon, will give them my own test.

I ran those for about a year on my cherokee. I am about to put them on my yota now. For the road they handle great, it handles the rocks great also. For clay they do suck badly though. They are also really heavy for the size tire it is.
