cant make up my mind 33's 35's "pics please"
I recently have been going back and forth between 33's or 35's Im going to run them on my stock rims its a 98 4 runner I know either way I am going to have to re gear I have a 4 cylinder. Im sure I don't really have much of a advantage with 35's but I am going with toytec 883's up front and LC coils in the back so I want to fill up the room and I dont want tiny looking tires believe me it will see good use but I really like the look of big tires and it wont be a street queen by any means Im thinking I like the look of a 35's that are not to beefy... Any of you guys have pics of a similar set up on 35's? and a good tire to get online stores here are way expensive... the tire will see ALOT of offroading and snow and some long freeway drive every now and then... Also what gearing would be needed for this and would it need to be regeared RIGHT AWAY??? thanks guys...

You wont need to regear right away. The main place you take a hit is climbing long hills and top speed. I'm running 35's stock 4.10's and a stock 22r. Can still hold 65 up hills on the freeway.
I dont think you can really find what your asking for; a super swamper will do great in snow and mud, you will be unstopable, but they will shake like hell on road. A BFG mud or something of that nature wont get you anywhere in the snow. I would recommend getting a set of A/T's for on road and a set of TSL's for wheelin. I dont see a need for 35's they will probably do more harm than good on your ifs.
33" TSL's and lockers will take you anywhere you want to go

I dont think there will be a problem running them with a 4 in suspension lift in rear 3 in front with a top out spacer and a 2 body lift comming soon it just seems to me that 3 in the front and 4 in the rear with 33's would make my ride look really funny... alot of guys are running 35's on IFS Im not going with a extremley wide tire or anything...

I know its a 2nd gen but these are 35 x 12.5's on a 15" rim with 3.75 backspacing and a Pro Comp stage II bracket lift with no cranking on the T-bars and some pinch weld trimming in the front next will be BJ Spacers or maybe a little T-bar crank to help with the full lock rub only issue with the 35's

Man that's a nice rig... it seems if I go with a 3 all around kit with 33's ill have sag so im going with lc coils in the bag to somewhat even it out or have it a little higher so I really don't want my truck looking goofy and having what looks like such small tires then again I have not seen a set up like mine is going to be this weekend on here...

Well just a lesson I learned that I have never really heard anyone say.
I ran 33" mud tires on stock gears 4.38's and it was fine I could use 5th gear and 4hi, I had enough wheel spin to clean lugs in the mud, and could stand on the pedal in 4 hi with no problem.
Now I am runing 36" Super swampers TSL on 5.29's I dont use 5th gear much on the highway but my top speed is 65mph. The problem is 4hi I cannot use 4hi I stall out if i try so that means no wheel speed off road for cleaning lugs, in better terms I could do more with 33's when I ran smaller tires I could get the wheel speed up to clean lugs off road.
I am now looking to do a motor swap or go back to smaller tires!
you know what looks really goofy a toyota on big tires trying to get up a muddy hill side and getting denied cause his lugs are filled from the lack of engine power to turn his heavy big tires
LMAO at myself

id have to disagree there plumbr, i could get in way more places with my 35's than my 33's. and with my 35 boggers 1st gear 4low with 4:10's worked perfect on hill climbs. id blow so much mud id have to stop and fill up my pissers about twice a trip!
better yet, my buddy used to run 38x11 boggers on his 85 with 4:10's, and he had more tire speed than me(cause of his bigger tires)! but, they were both a joke on the hwy

what motor are you running i have around 140hp 5.29's locked f/rI have been denied on two muddy hill climbs due to my lugs being filled with mud and the tire not moving fast enough to clean lugs. tried to get speed on my side but the tires are to big and heavy to use 4hi, try to use stand on the petal in 4lo and it just cant get the truck moving fast enough
dont use 4hi use 4lo, if you want speed just shift up. you can do around 50mph in 4lo..
what gear are you using in 4 low?
now i have 5:29's and 36's locked rear, open in the front.
i use second gear now, (4low) and full skinny around 6,000 rpm. works great!

THats how i do it. Plumbrbob's motor is beefy as hell tho

Sorry for the thread jack!
i dont have a dyno for proof, I have street raced 22r, 22re, 22ret, & 3.0 some where built some at stock and smoked them all, as of right now trying to turn 36" TSL's on steels I dont think I could do it. I was running 33" radial mud tires on aluminum and I could burn rubber in 1st and chirp through 2nd and 3rd.
I am running a 87 22R with engn builders High output racing head OS everything fully ported and polished, EB's Torker cam, weber 32/36 jetted gasket matched to intake , stock intake manifold ported, polished and gasket matched to head, hedman header gasket matched to head, LC enginnering adj. cam gear, LC underdrive pulley, LC waterpump pulley, centerforce flywheel, centerforce2, bored over .50, 8.5mm wires,NGK's, low resistance cap and rotor, pro distrubuter, 2 1/4 pipe.
Everything on my motor was built new 4 years ago, so fresh everything nothing tired. maybe its 135 or 130 but its up there. i have too much money in that motor LOL what a WASTE if money. could of bought a couple 4.3L LMAO
50 miles per hour in 4LO huh I have never tried that??????????LOL maybe thats my problem. I typically can barely get into 3rd gear in 4lo
on the trails I run i dont think i could get a run at these hills that fast, but maybe i should try.
the first hill climb that denied me in my 35's was several hundred feet long it was an ATV trail, i made it half way or so and my lugs where fully filled with mud. I was spinning tire and going no where.
The second mud hill that denied me was only 60 ft long BUT i had to make a hairpin turn to line up for it so 4lo 1st gear had to start the climb. made it about half way
All i am saying with my 33's and climbing these hills which i successfully did before with my 33's I could stand on the petal and work through the gears giving me the speed to shoot mud clogs everwhere!
Maybe its your boggers? I wanted to run boggers but was uneasy of the turning traction on tight trails.
TSL's no good maybe?

I should say too that most stuff on the trail these days i jsut bull over in 1st gear 4lo maybe 2nd every now and then i have little trouble getting over stuff except on long steep muddy hill climbs that i used to enjoy that i no longer can do.
So my bad

i was just saying that 4lo can produce enough speed to clean out the mud.i use to have boggers, they are the best dot approved tire for any mud situation by far(except side hills). do your tires have good tread? Ive noticed over the years that, tsl's do best in mud holes and stuff like that. not so much on hill climbs. but when new they do ok. and for me, swamper's are easier to spin/clean out than my boggers(duh) and so far my irocks to!
for me it doesn't matter how hard/steep the hill climb is. because if i make it or not, my tires are always cleaning out and flinging mud everywhere.
if you can pin 2nd gear 4lo, then your swamper should be cleaning out! i know mine do

I was retracting my earlier statement cause I actually do very well off road and I am complaining about not being able to make it up two specific ATV trails that I shouldnt really be on anyways LOL

im just confused on why you cant spin you tires fast enough to clean them out. have you tried 2nd gear 4lo @ around 6000rpm?
