about to buy new tires
I'm about to buy new tires, and I've had my eyes on the Goodyear silent armor A/T tires. But then I saw the firestone off-road tires for $40 less.
I had a question. My current tire size is 30x, 9.50, R15 LT. The default tire size is 225/75R-15. What size would be in between this? The ones I have are big enough, but the stock size might be too small and look bad with the lift. So I might look at going in between and just settling for something big enough.

i've got 31x10.5 procomp M+S tires ... have had them for 2 years ... a little noisy but they have pulled me through swamps and snow banks ... still got about 50% tread and i drive mountain roads a lot ... 31's are a nice upgrade from stock without having to do any gearing ... i think i only noticed a tad difference in performance, it may just be in my head though

Get some 31x10.50 procomp extreme all terrains... about $134 a piece.
I put mine on a few weeks ago and have about 600 miles on them. They ride real nice on the road, not any louder than my bridgestone dueler at's.
Plus, these things throw mud, stick to rocks like flies on a turd, and clean themselves great.

I think I've got around 15,000 miles on them. They were on my truck for 10,000 and I think I've put almost 5,000 on them with the 4runner. I don't think they are much heavier than any other 31 inch mud/rock tire.

I don't do a lot of off-roading. i'd like to, but I need a lot of stuff like a new clutch first and i need to fix the exhaust leak. So right now i'm looking for something good on the road, and should I ever need to take a dirt/muddy road, something that will handle okay there.
I WAS looking at the goodyear silent armor A/T tires, until I saw some comparable firestone tires for about $40 less.

basically...
for bias ply / rated tires: tire diameter X tread width X rim diameter
for radial / metric tires: tire cross section / aspect ratio R rim diameter
31x9.5x15 should be a 31" diameter tire with 9.5" wide tread and fits a 15" rim
285/75R15 would be a tire that the width of the tire is 285 millimeters, the sidewall height is 75% of the tread width (in this case, ~213 mm) and fits a 15" rim

Nope. I thought I knew, but then as I searched more, the more I realized everything I knew was wrong. This is stuff they dont teach you in school (and should...maybe.)
I just started getting into cars and trucks within the past year (actually, since I bought my truck, which was exactly 1 year ago today). So I'm missing out on a LOT of information, and I don't learn about it until I fix/repair/replace something.
