85 stock solid axle with 36" tsl's?????????

Wanna run 36 tsl's but am questioning if the stock axleshafts will hold up! Will be running 5.29 gears, and possibly a dual t-case, motor = 4 banger, drive it moderatley rough on trails, but i like being able to drive it to and from trails! Anyone who has had this setup, input would be great!

id say with a single case and an easy foot you'd be ok, but with dual cases if you get one of your front tires grabbing something you'll snap

how wide are the 36"s or the 35"s? what type of trails are you running...rocky and grippy, of muddy soft trails? even with 35"s and duals you'll snap something if your front is caught up in a rock or is spinning and catches. longs are the way to go. for $665 or whatever they cost US, they're well worth it and have a lifetime warranty. i have them i HATE fixing stuff on the trail when the truck is filthy.

36x12.50 on Hummer recentered beadlocks, I drive in mud, creekbeds witch have clay not rock, and yearly trips to va for bigdogs...not sure the dual t case is going in right off the bat, but if you guys are saying breakage, I prolly should listen...

I have 36x14.5x15 tsl's (which are too wide for my liking) byut I got a smoking deal on them so I got them . People DO run 36"+ tires on stock birfs, but you can pretty much expect breakage. Grab the 36"s, run the single t-case for now, get the longs first, then go to duals. That's what I would do (well, did, but you know what I mean lol)

Upper gusset and creeper joints will stiffen it up. As long as your not jumping the truck you should be ok with that stuff

You MUST get stronger joints... B/c the problem with blowing them is often the wheels are turned changing the angle on the joints. That's what leads to popping them... Unless when you wheel, it's always in a straight line? Then I guess stocks are fine...

You'll need: V6 Centers, 5:29 or 5:71 gears... Lockers (I recommend full-case) and Longfields if you want to run that tire w/o becoming part of the landscape...

I have 36's on mine right now and havent had a problem. I know the previous owner would run 40's. But this is almost all mudding.

Two weeks ago My chopped and sased 95 runners front 85 axle WAS welded High pinion 4.10, stock birfs, upper and lower gussets, with the creeper gussets, brake plate eliminators, Running 35" BFG's, I have dual T-cases both 2.28 geared... I absolutely demolished my longside birf.... They mostly break but not always when you are in reverse and turning ( I was at a tight turn )

Since then I have put my welded 5.29 high pinion in with the 30 spline longfield super kit with hub gears and 36" Swamper SX'x on it and wheeled it HARD without even thinking about the axles.

I highly recommend spending the little extra money for the longs and hub gears which are proven, over the Dirty thirties that Trail-gear is selling... dont get me wrong... my truck is mostly built with trail gear product... but you cant beat the customer service and reputation Bobby Long has built himself and his company to be.

OH AND when you get 5.29 gears... Send them to Bobby Long and get the Cryo service its only $45 and its MORE than worth it
