33" MTs in snow?

I'd like to run 33X12.50 BFG MT KM's on my 2nd Gen. Although I live in Minnesota & with alot of snow on the horizon, is this a wise choice? I could get the tires siped too? Or just go A/T tires? Is this too wide of a tire for a stock rim?

Oh yeah, I'm running Downey HD's & cranked torsion bars throughout the winter. 2" Body lift in the spring to get the necessary clearance for offroading.

THANKS! in advance

Four Wheeler did an artcile last year comparing the procomp AT vs. the MT in snow. If I remember correctly the AT's did a little bit better on road but the MT's worked better off road. They concluded that for the little bit better traction you get on road the MT was the tire to buy Take it or leave it If u have a 7 inch rim I dont believe a 12.50 tire would be recommended.

I love my MT/R's in the snow of Wisconsin, 33x12.5's. They are even better than my old BFG AT's.

Running those on a stock rig is going to have those tires on the fenders like green on grass. Forget clearance off-road, you aren't going to have clearance to turn. Plan on driving straight on flat roads.

I've read the Interco TRXUS MT's do better in wet and snow than almost all other MT's

I've heard the same. Has ANYONE heard how these things wear? I like these tires quite a bit, but if I can only get 20K out of them, I'll be looking elsewhere. (I don't know how long they last - I just threw 20K out there)

32x11.5's will fit fine. 33's will rub without some sort of lift.

Once again heresay, but from what I understand you should be able to get 40-50000 out of them.

AT vs MT

Ok, This is from experience last year. We had five trucks, all had MT's except me. We drove in a foot of snow, which is not much and they seemed to do ok. I noticed right off the bat that after we aired down to 14psi my 33" BFG AT's were cleaning extremely well compaired to the MT's. Even some of the owners of the MT's were amazed as to the way it cleaned.
The BFG AT are already sipped so I think that is a factor in the cleaning, the MT's were not.
The rest of the day we messed around and then we ended up on a narley trail, steep hills, lots of rock gardens etc. Once we all got over the first hill, I advised we needed to turn around since the trail had not been used in three months, too much over growth and no tracks in the foot + snow. The last truck could not make it back over the hill, not enough traction. Same with the rest, I was unable to squeeze to the back of the line so I had to blaze the trail.
7.5 hours later and at 11pm we exit the trail, lots of fried nerves but one thing for sure, the AT's stuck to those rocks like glue and the MT's had nothing but trouble.
I still have my AT's with 30,000 miles on them and half tread life left.

in general ATs are better than MTs in snow. i have MTs because i am in mud alot more than i am in snow so it was a natural choice. if you really want an MT i would suggest getting a more snow oriented MT like the goodyear mtr which is an incredible tire.

I personally would avoid siping the tires on any car since siping independant studies has proven to have little effect and with sports car and tires that will see off road, siping just causes them to chunk apart when driven aggressively.
