porch light:

i wanted one, but didn't want to have an incandescent bulb on there after seeing what happened to the old one (mostly melting). so i decided to modify one to put a string of led's in. i already had them, so it was a no-brainer. results were most excellent

(all pics shot with the same exposure: f-3.0, 1/30)

Now you do realize you will be getting lots of visits from your neighbours in the campground asking you why your light is so bright right?
Looks good Ian.

where (top to bottom, left to right):
aluminum skin
½" foam board
½" foam board, led lighting, wiring, foam
translucent plastic

popped it out this past weekend and installed the porch light. using high-strength tape, i managed to only drill one hole in the roof (sealed with goop)

heh, thanks. now that the weather's nice, i can get a bunch done. i still need to get insulation for the roof, but when i had it popped out, the inside of the roof was cool while sitting in full sunlight. that rubber roof coating works nicely.

in other news, i ordered these screens/vents to put over the hole i'm gonna make for the a/c. they're aluminum with mesh screen to keep the bugs out, and they were fairly cheap. the big ones are 16" x 8" and the thin ones are 16 x 4

Looks good Ian except for one problem... when you decide to add an awning to keep the rain out when you open the door and have a place to grill under in same that light is going to be above it... as I said looks good otherwise...

Ok Ian first off great off great work with the roof. Looks fantastic.

I know I'm really backtracking here but when you did the axle flip did you worry about the crown of the axle? It doesn't seem so but with how light these trailers are I didn't know how much it really mattered. Just thought I'd pick your brain.

ha, nope. i literally flipped the axle over, nothing done with the leaves. there's been no ill-effects over the half-dozen round-trips i've made.

That's good to hear. I flipped mine too. I'll let you know if anything happens. I know a bunch of people over at pup have strong feelings one way or the other. I can't believe how much higher it is now.

What kind of shape is your awning in? Did you decide how to insulate the roof? Foam glued to plastic?

my awning is in great shape, just a bit bowed in, and the supports have seen better days. i got some generic telescoping poles to use to prop it up.

i'll be insulating the roof one of these days (next week, perhaps) with the pink foam and some expanding foam for the hard-to-reach areas. i want to recess the lights in the foam and cover the ceiling with translucent plastic for a neat effect. we'll see how that works out.

Plastic will be cold and rattle in wind... plastic panels over recessed lights would work but imo a fabric/vinyl of some kind would be warmer and quieter as a cover for the majority of the roof... "fun" fur perhaps?...

So how many colours can you make? sync to music disco boogie lights?

A little music to inspire you...

and just to amuse and confuse you

it has 16 steady colors, each dimmable, and 4 flashing/fading modes. i like it (especially for how cheap it was), but i don't think i'll add flashing-to-music features just yet.

and for the roof, i figured out a decent way to cover everything and still have light come through: instead of plastic, i use fabric held up with velcro. that way, it's easy to take down if i need to fix anything, i can swap out colors easily, it's translucent, and it's cheap
