Saw this knife on another forum, and I have added it to my meager collection.

A few cool points about it:
1. You can use it as a hammer.
2. Handle has grooves in it so you can use rope and latch it to a stick to use as a spear.
3. The sheath has a built in V shaped sharpener, way cool, you can see it in the second picture
4. The rear of the sheath has the molle system straps on it that will attach to vests, packs, and the M-Rack that I carry on the rear door of the FJ.
5. There is also a point at the end of the handle that will break an automotive window should you find yourself in water and you need to break the window in order to escape.
It does the same thing as those Life Hammers that you carry in your rig to tap the window with.

Anyone have one of these Gerbers?
I just picked it up at my local Sportsmans Warehouse.

 

I have a Gerber boot knife that has been great over the years; although I don't own the model you have. Gerber has a good name in the business & is fairly well respected but I have encountered some knives they made that were too brittle.

 

Cant beat my becker BK10 5.5", I looked and handled the gerber before i nabbed the other one and the becker is way better steel and tougher imho.

However I would take the gerber, nice knife.

 

I work with soldiers (all branches) and the marines and army guys swear by this knife, even more so than the new Ka-Bar II. I have a old BMF but never really used it, and was blown away that these still go for $300 on ebay...mainly as a collector's item now.

 

They replaced the Ka-Bar? had'nt heard that...

 

I had one of these once, it was a fantastic "brute force" knife, but was mediocre for things like skinning, etc. Loved the sheath and the grip, but I honestly would have preferred to have a thinner blade.

I wish I could say I still had it, but it got stolen in a break-in by some crackhead.

 

Skinning and such should be let to a much finer bladed knife anyways.

 

Looks like it would be a nice knife to keep in the glovebox. Looks like it would also be good when camping. Just since I don't use knifes too often, which would be better? With that little serated part or without?

 

Serrated part is usefull for cutting rope and such, you dont really cut things with that part of the blade anyways, mostly the upper half.

 

Thats what i thought. I still find it hard to believe to pay close to $100 bucks for a knife though. I do like this one though. Im thinking about ordering it right now. LOL i can always find things to waste my money on.

Where is that made? Getting sick of seeing Taiwan/China stamped on everything

 

Ordered one today. Will let you know what I think of it when it shows up.

 

I was told by some knife shop that it was probably made in Portland Oregon.

Also about my previous post about keeping it in the glove box, thats a no go, at least in CA. I looked up the knife laws, and it cannot be concealed.

 

Problem with that is one person's "plain view" is another's "concealed".

for example I could stow it in a sheath attached to the door... Plain view when door open, concealed when closed... who'd to say which is right?
