PAL vs NTSC Please help!

My girlfriends father lives in Kuwait. He purchased her a video camera for her birthday. Unknown to us, it plays in PAL since it is designed for Kuwait, and not the USA. In america, everything including our computer is setup to recognize NTSC signals. This means when I try to play the tape on the TV or on the Computer, it just comes out scrambled.

Anyone know what I can do to remedy this problem? Do i just need to buy a new NTSC Camera in the USA, or ???

Thanks!

You can get a converter for that. I have a dual format VHS deck (Aiwa brand) that with both play and record PAL or NTSC in either format.

Thanks!

I think, based on the cost of those things, it may just be better for me to get a new camcorder. That way I can have one that records in HD direct to dvd or mini discs.

Do the cameras record in PAL, or just output the signal in PAL? Meaning, can I take the tapes from the camera and use them in USA camcorders to download the data?

Likely all PAL in the camera. PAL is based on 50 Hz. (25 frames per second), while NTSC is a 60 Hz system (30 frames per second):
