I don't have buggar all for night shots. Both of these were taken with a 3MP camera in 2003.

dont mean to hijack... but what kinda camera are you guys using to take those pics??? those are awesome...

 

Canon 20D w/ a Tokina 28-70mm @ f2.8. It gets the job done.

 

any camera will work really. just make sure you've got scene selection modes..like night portrait or night mode. landscape will also work, as all you really need is a long shutter speed. tripods are essential for blur free images...unless you want the blur, then handholding is the answer.

with a d/slr, well..if you've got one of those, chances are that you know how it works. manual mode, low ISO, and experiment.

 

ive just got a lil sony digi... cybershot 6mp.... it has iso and diff options.. dunno about shutter speed im a complete tool when it comes to photography... i just use it for work to take pics of houses...

 

If you lower the ISO setting, it will force a longer shutter speed. (The ISO is like the film speed in the good ole days - higher number = faster film which takes less to expose, but has a grainier image)

Mine is a point-and-shoot, but it has extensive manual options. For these kinds of photos, I put it in "Tv" which allows you to set the shutter speed (up to 15 secs!) and then it adjusts everything else based on that.

 

I will try it out tonight and see what I can come up with... Have always liked looking at cool pics maybe I will see if I can take em!

Shooting at night is a blast, especially shooting normal exposure times. I do a lot of portrait shoots at night, with no flash.

If you guys are shooting for star trails, try opening up your aperture as wide as it'll go (24mm f/1.4 makes an awesome star trail lens) and stack a few 1 or 2 minute exposures. You can get some awesome stuff with nice, long trails.

 

ok for my final i have decided to do S.F. by Night. i just got home from my first take at it... here's some teasers.. these have no way been edited or otherwise photoshopped. i just got home an want to goto bed, but know if i dont post them know, it wont happen.







i need to go in and add contrast to a couple spots and change the white balance to get rid of the redness.... i'll update it later, like i said its a teaser...
