Sounds good, should be sometime late july/ early august.

BTW this thing has way more power than I expected, I still have some tuning to do and the torque is awesome... save up your pennies Hayes!
V8 swaps must be crazy... 4.3 is all you need.

Nice swap, I've wanted to put a Mercruiser v6 in a truck since they came out with the Vortec engines. 230hp is great for a v6 since the 5.0 (305s) have only 230 hp on a good day when they are brand new.

Thanks, This swap has turned out better than I had hoped, today I finished tuning the volumetric efficiency tables (VE tables) and started on the Acceleration enrichment bins. When I richen the top bins in the table and lean into wide open throttle... easily 230+ HP !
The MSII is amazing, I still find it hard to believe that I can tune some numbers on my laptop and feel the difference instantly in the seat of my pants... surely the federal government will outlaw anything that works this well!

I wish I could have afforded it. Looks like turbo is going to be the way to go for me. Less time and cheaper in the long run.

Sorry not yet, I have a valve sticking in the tranny and dont have 4th gear. I will post up as soon as I get good numbers.
The cool thing about the Megasquirt controller is I can lean out the cruise area of the fuel map and really stretch the mileage so I am hoping for 20 plus on the highway.

cool cuz i ve decided to do the swap but i don t know if i should stick to the stock ecu and use a hypertech plug in play or use the mega squirt set up. i did find the mercruiser intake for 200 bucks on e-bay. which i plan on using.

Awesome work man! Thanks for posting such a great write up! How much harder do you think this would be on a 93 pickup? I still l have IFS, and no body lift. I am looking at a 4.3 with an auto as well.

Thanks ej, I don't think it would be any more difficult to do this swap on a '93 pickup. The IFS may require you to use the smaller oilpan or mount the engine a little higher to clear, or at least that is what I have heard...the 2" B.L. is highly recommended.
Regardless the increase in power is worth all the trouble, these rigs are awesome when they have power.

I live close to Abilene.. about 15 minutes from the lake.
What is "the glade" ?
We love the durango, ouray, lake city area but this year we are going to the cressted butte area first and maybe coming down to lake city later in the trip.

It's been over 30 days since we have heard anything from you. When are you coming to CO? When are we going to get dyno information?

Come on TexCat

Yea, well... we bought a house and it's been tough to get anything done on the 4runner.
I have been driving it to work some and running some tuning logs when I do, it runs good and gets better everytime. I doubt I will dyno it anytime soon.

I have to change the throttle valve geometry and modify the seperator plate on the 700r4 so 4th gear will stay in firmly before I will know the MPG.
I got my full size spare tire and wheel today and got started on the tranny repairs.
We leave for CO last week of july, should be "good to go" by then.

We will be in the Crested Butte area around the 27th of july, for up to 3 days before we move south to Lake City for a week.
We were thinking about camping near Paradise divide and running The Devils Punchbowl and some other trails near C. Butte
BTW, trail reports and suggestions from the locals would be welcome : )

For what it's worth I built a power program today for the megasquirt that has an air fuel ratio of 12.5/1 to 13.5/1 and It's really stout, amazing how I could feel the difference as I moved the low end torque numbers into the 12.5/1 range it really woke up!
The cool thing about totally programmable fuel control is that in the middle of that map I can still plug in economy numbers for the cruise area so that I have maximum power untill I get off the throttle and settle into highway cruising and I can lean that section out to 16/1 for economy... I'm ruined!
