my chevota
hello, i'm new here, just thought i would share my build what started out as a bone stock 1990 toyota 4runner sr5 v6, i purchased all parts needed from advance adapter and found a doner truck with a chevy 350, the build took about 1 yr, well
worth taking my time, i still am using my stock transfer case adpated to a 700r4 transmission, i had to use a 3"body lift to have enough clearance for the small block, i still am using stock toyota drivetrain, the worst part of this build is the wiring, what a nightmare, just a project in the works still, i live near the moses lake sandunes, so that's what it pretty much was built for, anyways let me know what u guys think!!

[quote=olharleyman;51345407]Needs some bigger tires other then that very cool Question if you are running a carbed 350 whats the wiring issues?[/quo
The wiring issue i'm having is i am still using the stock pcm
from the v6 but only using like 5 hot wires out of harness (not to run engine) an hacked the others, using stock guages as well that r ran off the cmputer and all power accesories, had issues with not getting 12 volts to dstributor and found that i tapped into a wrong wire causing draw and no reverse lights or stop lights?? wtf?? i did not even get near tail lights maybe when messing with fuse block?? who knows, it's runs very well and i'm planning to rewire complete rig with painless wireharness

Aight Ive got some questions for ya if you don't mind answering b/c me and my friend are wanting to put a 350 into my yota i mean friday im goin to buy the donor truck so we can start getting all the parts for the swap, and i didnt mean to hijack your thread...
Aight first off what all modifications did you have to do to fit the motor and radiator? Can you use the transfer case off the toyota? what other mods did you have to do to the body? did you have to stiffen the front shocks to handle the wieght?
Aight man thank you so much for posting this lol i really hope you can help or give some advice on my swap...

no modification were made to fit the motor or radiator, on the motor i did have to run a
short water pump system to clear the radiator, finding the right pulleys and alternator
bracket was a pain, the radiator and motor mounts were bought from advance adapters for this application, i used a pusher electric fan on the front side of the radiator for clearance,
yes i did use my stock tranfer case using a adapter from advance adapters to adapt it to a
700r4 transmission, i still have stock suspension but had to use a 3" body lift for extra clearance on transmission and motor, i called advance adapter and odered everything to do this swap as a "bolt in" swap; mounts, headers, radiator, tranfer case relocation mount, transfer case to transmission adapter kit, transmission cooler lines, oil pan. i do recomend using your toyota power steering pump by using a bracket from Nortwest offroad, i used a chevy power steering pump but had to make power steering hoses, just take your time and do research, this forum will really help you along your build, i wish i knew about it when i did my swap, good luck!!! anymore question let me know, i would be glad to help

where did you find the brackets and pulleys? Is the 700r4 the tranny that came out of the chevy donor? What all could you use electrical wise out of the yota?
Once again thank this is helping a ton

I bought some aluminum pulleys and powersteering brackets from march performance$$$$$, no the 700r4 came out of a blazer, the motor was bolted to a turbo 350 transmission wich i should have used, but the 700r4 is nice cuz it has overdrive, i used the stock toyota computer using only 5-6 wires to power my accesories and stock intrument cluster and guages, the motor did have a points distributor wich i swapped out with a hei distributor with little firewall modification due to body lift, what year and make of donor vehicle are u using?? and what transmission are u running and r plan on using stock transfer case?

Great job! I am putting in a Buick V-6 in my 85 4runner. I am currently working on the wiring. I removed the engine wire harness (the main goal is keeping as simple as possible) now I have to get to the ignition switch. I'd like to know the part numbers on your alt brackets, the one I have now mounts the alt high and in the center. I like the way yours is mounted. Thanks and keep us up to date on how it goes.

hey hyme
the truck is like an older to mid 80's chevy.im plannin on using the stock transfer case. i plan on getting a t350 from a wreckage yard or do you think i should get a 700r (most driving will be highway with occassional muddin)? Also whenever you got the body lift did you extend your steering? did you use the corvette water pump or did you buy one?
I started taking out the V6 yesterday and it is all wiring and barely any motor lol what did you do with all the wires and hoses? did you just chunk them out?

nevermind on the water pump i found one for almost nothing. ive got a t350 for free so i guess i could use it. so now it's really down to wiring i guess i still have to get most of the parts and some more things and i will be ready to install.

senior2010, the steering shaft has a slip yoke set up to were it slides into itself, just pop the pin out and it will extend enough for a body lift. I bought a short water pump from my local parts store, good luck on the wiring i worked at a toyota dealer at the time(now work at dodge)but had access to a toyota electrical book , don't gut none of the wiring until you are a 100% sure you don't need them, i made the mi$take by doing $o!!!!
