Ok so I have been thinking about this swap for a few years now and I want to do it but there are still alot of quesions I have! I have searched for hours and havent realy figured stuff out! One thing that Im still wanting to know is wireing this thing! I want to keep all my stock guages! SO what all do i need to do to keep them! I know I want to run a 4.3 vortech so I will need the computer for it and dont know how I will work in the stock stuff also! Any info would be great!

You will need to put your temp, and oil sensors onto the new engine. The rest is fairly easy. Since the Toyota gets its speedo from the t-case, thats not an issue. Let me know which motor you will be using and I'll get the wiring out to you (PM please). The 4.3 needs about 5 wires to run and about 12-15 wires for guages and other crap. Make sure you get the ECU, Harness, and ALL smog equipment (including canister, O2's and exhaust). The 87 fuel pump is adequate.
Where are you located (smog reasons) ?
Will you be using the Toyota Tranny or GM ?

im in Idaho so there is no smog laws here! I will be running the toyota 5speed for now! So I will have to splice in wire to retain my stock guages? Hey thanks for the info man!

No splicing, you will just retain your current wires, from guages to sensors. You will have to remove the sensors from the Toyota engine and put them on the 4.3. I tapped my thermo housing for temperature, and put the oil sensor onto my 4.3 block.

The 4.3 TPI Vortec, is the best. I believe 96+ are the best years. I run a 1992 CPI, which is also a good motor, but has a fixable problem with the regulator.

Thats a bunch of great info. I have been considering (dreaming about) doing this swap for years and it sounds like its not too much trouble. And 86toylet I believe you know your stuff on that subject.
I believe I read in 4WD and Sport Ute that there was a significant increase in horsepower and torque inthe early to mid 90's. Do you know what year and which models were commonly using this motor? Just S-10's?

alot of Astro's used the motor. I got mine from a 2wd S-10 Blazer. There is a considerable difference in power and torque between the TBI and CPI/TPI. The CPI and TPI make around 35+ more HP than the TBI. A buddy of mine just dyno'd his TPI, and its making 240 HP bone stock.

I've driven multiple vehicles with the 4.3. The ones that are always the fastest are the Astro/Safari vans. We have a 99 Safari at work that blows the doors off the 96 s-10 with the same 4.3.

I have 36" tires, 4.88 gears, 4.3 CPI, 700R4, I get 15-17 MPG.
Yes a 22RE pump will work for a stock 4.3. You may have to upgrade the size of your fuel lines but the pump is adequate.
