302 help needed A.S.A.P !! PLEASE

Hey, I have a 1994 toyota pick up that is solid axle swaped and I have a line on a 302 Motor, transmission and transfer case to put in. What I need help with is how to make the transfer case work with the front axle, since the toyota axle is a different side drop then the transfer case. Has anyone done this swap or have any advise on how to re index a transfer case or anything to make it work. I am suppossed to go pick the transmission and transfer case up tommorrow so ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

You have two options...use a Ford C4 auto or AOD trans with an adapter to mount the toyota transfer case or do as the last poster and I have both done and use a conversion bell housing and clutch.

The latter will work great provided you are running reasonably sized tires and not abusing the truck in the woods. My W56 five speed has been beefed up with parts from a W58 supra "iron core" trans. This changes the gear ratios and provides bigger bearings and a cast iron bearing plate. Look for the rusty "stripe" in the middle of the trans as some W56 truck transmissions had this cast iron bearing plate (late 80's 4x4's with seperate transfer case shifter)

You can also get an adaptor for an R series trans which is typically behind a V6. These are only slightly stronger and somtimes have sycro issues.

There is a lot of guys who do not recomend running a toyota trans behind a v8 but if they can handle 600+ Horsepower in a supra drag car I think they can stand up to a little v8 offroading. The W series trans has bigger components then a t5 american 5 speed used in many pony cars so I would think it would be stonger too.

The auto trans does give you less stress on the drivetrain and is recomended for heavy offroad use.

I think I will be going the route of an adaptor plate to keep it simple.
