Power Steering fluid compatibility - VW/Toyota

Hi All. Long-time lurker, first post.

Quick question re power steering components in a VW TDi-swapped 4Runner (the "VolksRunner").

I have a '97 4Runner with a 2005 Passat TDi (2.0 BHW). The swap was completed last November but I don't drive the truck much. It has maybe 2500 miles on the swap. As far as I can tell the 4Runner is still on its original steering rack (not too shabby considering the chassis has 300,000kms on it). The age of the VW pump is unknown but it appears to be in good shape with no leaks or funny noises. Donor car had 300,000kms, but no service history.

It's time to replace my steering rack, and I note that the VW PS pump takes non-synth MD-3 fluid, but the Toyota rack uses Dex III ATF. Since my rack is fried I'm going to use MD-3 until I replace it after Christmas, but which fluid should I use with the new rack? I don't want to destroy seals, fittings or hoses so I guess my question is which fluid is going to cause the least problems?

(edited for typo)
