I finally got around to drilling and tapping the Mercedes oil filter housing cover to add an auto meter warning light. Here is how it is done at least for me.

Make the spot to drill

Drill pilot hole

Drill correct size hole for the 1/8 27 NPT tap

Start taping
Use NPT gauge to make sure I done over tap since the NPT is tapered.

Did you use a tach? How do you hook it up?

Most have found the easiest way to run a tach is the adapter from Dakota Digital. It counts the teeth on the ring gear. There is one that has its own reluctor wheel as well.

I used the Dakota digital adapter using a signal off of the alternator. I'm am having some issues getting it calibrated properly, but I really haven't given it too much time. It gives me a good idea of what is going on though.

Remove the pump and replace with a straight tube and the rest of the lines are OK to use.

awesome swap.
i did a turbo diesel swap also, but i used a original 85 toyota motor.(i really like the merc motor but i was able to get the toy cheep) it was somewhat a plug and play , give or take a few wires. maybe someday ill run the merc, it would be nice if my truck could even do 75. lol

i see you have some lift in the truck, did you have to modify your plow mount at all?

Internals good for 300hp. Anybody else know about this?

Also, What kind of power can you squeeze out of these engines without big $$$? I think something like 180hp, 240tq would be great in a 3rd gen p/u, or 2g 4runner.
