Great job.
Has anyone done an OM617 swap on a standard height 2WD?
I ask because I have a '90 Toyota Odyssey motorhome with a tired 3.slow V-6. I think a little benz turbodiesel repower would be awesome in that thing. And it would likely get mpg somewhere up around 20.
I am fairly sure that it would involve some sort of hood mods and I think I could live with a power bulge in the hood. I was more concerned with firewall clearance.
Can someone give me a ballpark idea of costs involved? How much is the tdswap kit?
Can my A340 auto tranny be bolted up to the benz? Will it handle it? Would there be problems with tranny control as it is electronic?
I would love to just bolt a 5 speed up behind it, but, that does involve a fair bit more work/expense.

Yes, the toyota motorhomes are built on stretched C&Cs bought by the MH builders. Starting in about '87-'88 they were 1 ton (aka won ton, acording to a smart ass friend of mine). Before that they were the regular 1/2 ton 5 lug all around.
Being that mine is a won t...1 ton (6 lug fore and aft) would I still need to beef up the front suspension? That OM617 is one bigass lump of cast iron and has to have atleast a few hundred pounds on the 22RE or 3VZE.

holy crap this is awesome, I plan on doing a diesel swap at some point instead of the 3.4 into my V6 runner and just found out about this mercedes engine last week.

i'm pulling a junkyard om617 this weekend. I have a choice between an 83 and 85. I'm just going to see which one looks better. anyway. what other parts do you need to make the engine run? you guys mentioned the black box and a vacuum switch or something. is there anything else i need to grab?

okay... thanks. I have all the stuff in the back of my truck ready to go pick up it's future engine. what radiator do you recommend using? I think I saw you used the one from the 22re but I have seen people use a lot of different radiators for this swap. and the p/s pump lines on the toyota just bolt directly to the Mercedes pump correct? I think I heard that somewhere before.

I used the full tdswapes kit, it retains the stock 22re radiator in the stock location, it seems to keep it cool as well.
On my 85 4runner to the 80 mercedes 300sd om617.950 the Toyota lines went to the mb PS pump .
