That's a sweet gadget there. I was trying to remember the name of the product that my brother has... would be nice or even necessary if we don't get the temp gauge showing some relatively reliable reading. but space is limited in the cockpit so we'll see.

Today I sorted out the key switch. Since I am running my original interior harness I had loose wires hanging.

So I traced the documentation and found that pins 3 and 16 on the immobilizer ECU go to the sensor in question.
Jumpered them and viola, no more key warning switch error!

Water Temp Guage

I researched wiring diagrams for my original engine vs the 1KD, and found that the 1KZ has a water temp sensor & a water temp SENDER.
The sender goes directly to the gauge! I'll confirm this is the answer to the puzzle in a few days.

In the meantime I have a new snorkel install to complete, as well as some auxiliary light wiring, boost and EGT sensor re installations, and other small items to finish up while we wait on the exhaust to be finished and a newly found fuel and coolant leak addressed.

on the road!

Yes I have been too busy with the truck as it is on the road! Other than the gremlins and missing bolts, etc that will be expected after a vehicle sitting for 8 months there is only one issue with the engine: I have a lack of power until about 2300RPM, then the truck flies like a rocket... On the empty road I've never seen such top end speed in my truck before.
I have replaced the map sensor filter, and plan to: 1) check the turbo actuator lever for smooth operation 2) run a turbo stepper motor test 3) change all the vacuum hoses to the egr and map sensor 4) clean the MAF sensor.
Worst case i plan to take it to another reputable repair shop or a turbo shop. There seems to be alot of info about the VN turbo actuator / stepper motor failing or even the turbo ECU being a problem.

I should get the truck back today from having the A/C and heater reconnected and get on with looking into the cause of the low down lack of power.

Looking forward to hearing your lump is in the rig RBX! I can finally say the new power feels worth some of my timeline headaches.

RE cluster

RBX, since you were asking about the cluster let me share with you what I've done so far:
Speed sensor, RPM sensor work.
water temp gauge: I had to buy a water temp "Sender" for the previous engine (1KZ), as that engine has both a sender and a sensor, while the 1KD only has a sensor that goes to the ECU. I tapped the gooseneck for the sender.
Oil light: The oil light is on constantly... I realize the oil pressure gauge is different between my old and new engine, so I bought the sensor for the 1kd to swap out, as that wire also goes directly to the cluster.

Man I'm so jealous. Been sorting a bunch of wires because I'm going to use most of the hilux wireharness and replace as much of my existing harness as possible due to the corrosion found in every wire. Glad to hear you been able to road test it, I bet the power will be great when you sort the issue.
