2L vs. 2LT
hi guys. trying to plan out an engine swap to see if its worth my time.
i have a 1986 2l and am swapping it with a 1986 22re 4x4.
2L vs. 2LT?
how gutless is the 2L vs. the 2LT and how much mileage will i loose??
is the swap worth it??
comments and thoughts would be much appreciated

The 2L is a 2.4 L (2446 cc) 4 cylinder diesel engine. Bore is 92 mm and stroke is 92 mm, with a compression ratio of 22.3:1. Output is 72 hp (53.6 kW) at 4000 RPM with 115 ft·lb (155.9 N·m) of torque at 2200 RPM
The 2L-T is a 2.4 L (2446 cc) turbo version of the 2L still being produced since 1985. The bore and stroke are the same but the 2L-T has a compression ratio of 20:1. Output is 86 hp (64.1 kW) at 4000 RPM with 139 ft·lb (188.4 N·m) of torque at 2200 RPM

For the amount of work, fabrication, and cost, any 2L based engine is a bad choice. The 1KZTE engines are much more affordable than they have ever been and will provide a far superior finished product. The early 2LT engines were worlds better than the latter 2LTII, 2LTE etc, but parts availability is non-existent and getting worse. The 2L engines are pretty gutless though. There have been a few 2L swaps going on over at toyotadiesel.com. Hope this helps...-Todd
