2LT clutch question

Hey i have an 87 hilux surf, 2LT diesel. Im in the process of doing a clutch in it, i ordered the 2.4l turbo diesel kit off trailgear and when i went to put on the pressure plate it didnt fit the flywheel. After looking at the rest of the parts, the clutch disk is larger and throw out bearing doesnt look the same either, pilot bearing was the right one though. I called trailgear and they assured me that they sent me the right kit, i have a canadian 2L in my backyard and all my old clutch parts fit that flywheel perfectly but again the trailgear parts didnt bolt up. Does anyone have any info on what clutch parts i need to make this work?

Not 100% sure but the turbo flywheel is bigger and pins in the flywheel are spaced different

You did indeed get what you ordered .

Not the correct clutch kit for what you have

I think the correct flywheel will fix your problem or get the correct clutch kit

Which clutch kit do i need then? Just the 2L kit? are you saying my turbo motor might have the non turbo flywheel on it? My engine has a 6 bolt flywheel on it, from what i understand some motors had an 8 bolt flywheel? if thats the case what kit do i need for the 6 bolt?

Looking into this a little more .

It might be possible you got the wrong kit packed in the correct box.

get some measurements .

The reason it won`t fit is because the guide pins on the flywheel no matter how you move things around will not line up correct??

Then measure the flywheel

it comes down to either the wrong kit or you have a different fly wheel for some reason

Have you tried the Toyota Diesel Forum ?? I am sure they know much more then us

Yea thats right, the pins on the flywheel just dont match the holes on the pressure plate, the pressure plate that came with the kit is bigger than the one on my motor, and also the clutch disk it came with was bigger to, it was like 9.5" or something and my old clutch disk was 8 7/8". the pilot bearing was the right size and the throw out bearing looks different but seems to function the same. The spare motor i have in my backyard has the exact same flywheel that i have on my hilux, and i know its from a canadian truck so i must be able to get the right parts for it somehow. I tried a pressure plate from a 22re as well and that didnt bolt up either, so the diesels definitely have different flywheels than the 22r/re's. And i looked around on toyota diesel but there doesnt seem to be much activity on there anymore.

Looks to me like the 2LT and the 2.4 Turbo diesel use different clutches

Napa had a listing for the 2LT ATM 0762405 But no listing for the 2.4 Turbo diesel Did have the Clutch release bearing and pilot bearing

Which are the same for both engines

At least for 1987

Comes back to getting the correct clutch or correct flywheel

So you might have the clutch kit you ordered

So your saying theres a difference between a 2LT and a 2.4 turbo diesel? What i have in my backyard is a 2L non-turbo 2.4l naturally aspirated engine and it has the same flywheel as my 2L(T) turbo motor. Ive been told i can use a 22r clutch disk/pilot/throw out bearing but the only thing i cant figure out now is what pressure plate to get. And from what ive seen the bigger flywheel that would fit the clutch kit i ordered is an 8bolt flywheel where mine is a 6bolt, so i dont think looking for a flywheel will do much for me. The 2LT pressure plate is a discontinued part according to my local dealership, and my local napa doesnt even have the diesel in there computer system.

so just to follow up on this, trailgear insisted that their part number was correct and that the clutch they supplied was also correct, it definitely was not so if you have a 2LT dont order trailgears "2.4L turbo diesel" kit, i ended up sending the whole clutch kit back and got most of my money back for it. Napa had the correct kit at a much lower cost, although most likely lower quality but everything fit perfectly.
