Yeah, and mounts too! Getting the engine to the transmission is cool, but a lot of people don't have welders or fabricating equipment, but otherwise are perfectly capable of handling the mechanical duties to do the swap. So we just want to take care of the hard part so people can continue to enjoy these old trucks. As good as the old 22R is, it's just not enough :-)

thats awsome.
engine and transmission mounts or just transmission mounts?
sorry about all the questions. i really want to do this swap in the future and have the problems that you stated. and something like this for cheaper than $1000 from australia would be sweet.

Mostly concerned with engine mounts. I don't plan to move the position of the transmission because if you do, then the driveshafts have to change, and I don't want that. Not sure what the price will be yet, but I will make it as affordable as possible. I don't engineer junk, so quality and correctness is the primary concern. The quality units made by Castlemaine and Dellow are very nice parts due to being cast, if it ends up that a particular transmission requires a cast part, then it would cost more to produce. Although if I have to end up casting any housings, they will likely be magnesium since I have access to that material. The only problem with Mg parts is galvanic corrosion, the bolts have to have coatings or at least a coated washer. The cost is the same as Al but the Mg parts weigh roughly 30% less. The engine mounts will likely be waterjet/fabricated parts. Milled parts are nice but not really necessary.

oh good point, i didnt think about that. sounds like you got a good little plan on getting these produced and on the market.
and also, are they going to bolt up to the existing mounts or need to be welded on?

I dont want people to have to weld on their trucks. Not everyone has that luxury and it's not really necessary. Here's the first 3 tranny's loaded up for measurement. I should have the 150 trans next week.

Yeah the clutch and flywheel still have to be worked out. I am hoping to find a couple of cheap used 1UZ auto bellhousings so I can do a cutaway. I'd like to use a hydro bearing to simplify things.
I wish I had 8 hours a day to dedicate to this, but there is a lot to do on the design side....believe me, I am anxious too :-)

No not yet. I am pretty much eating my engineering time since the prototype will be in my truck, but it really depends if it can be designed with a plate or it it has to have a cast bellhousing. I won't know for sure until I start merging the data. Plus this will be a bolt in kit, mounts, clutch/flywheel details, My prototype down pipe will have data pulled from it too, so the possibility of a pipe exists as well. Since I have to design all of this, there is no point in not having information on all the parts so they can be made by machines in qty.

So this isn't a huge benefit but here is our initial scan of the R154 transmission, which is one on our list. It's not the priority, but just happen to be the first one we got done. I should have the W56 gearbox data done this weekend, and the R150 data and the scan of the engine bay done by next weekend. Something to look at for now, but at least putting some wheels on this project :-)

Looking into doing a swap (3.4 vs 1UZ-FE) on my 2nd gen 4runner. Has anybody done the 1UZ in the states? any recommendations on which way to proceed?
Thanx

if your gonna do an engine swap i say go ABO and do the v8 unless you need it done quick then do the 3.4 IMO.
