it runs, actually it is scary sounding. i have the exhaust downpipe made and it crossed over to the drivers side, the rad is in. now comes more little "just right" things to make it perfect.

Looking good so far! Haven't decided if I want to deal with the turbo yet, but my '80 is getting a 7m transplant sooner or later. Looking forward to videos.

No intercooler?

it is kind of a PITA with the turbo piping.
i ordered an inline water to air intercooler like a reverse radiator but in a tube. it will go ontop where the 3000 pipe is. so soon as i get it i will have an intercooler. the 1st gen trucks kind of have a short and smaller engine bay compared to the later trucks.

motor for now. i am going to move the oil cooler so the pusher fans can be mounted flush on the rad. installed a heat shield dividing the air intake from where the hot air from the rad will blow. drilled holes for better air inflow to the filter. going to get a couple of knock sensors this weekend to try to swap them out and see if they will fix the problem with code 52.

modified truck tach with the supra tach guts behind the gauge face so it reads correct. just moved some of the marks for the rpm range. since the truck tach died for some reason...

i am running a flowmaster single muffler and it sounds great better than i could have ever guessed.
also fixed some other stuff

^I assume he used the 5mge/22r combo.

Dude that turbo looks awesome in there! It kinda makes me want to change my mind from an N/A swap. I'm in the same mindset as BMcEL; i don't know if i want to deal with a turbo engine. But....It's kinda too late to be having second thoughts now!! Lol.

on page 1 i show what i used for the motor mounts (energy sus gm tranny mounts they are the same dia as the stock 22r mounts. but with the 20r the base of the mounts are actually narrower than for the 22r so i had to remove some material with a die grinder.
but yea bellhousing from a n/a 7m, the motor mount towers from a 5m and the energy sus mounts.
i picked up 2 knock sensors this weekend and a turbo heat shield. so tomorrow i will be putting them in and seeing if they work. i will post some videos then.
haha and i like the tosh.0 reference on the x 16k.
i have not gotten up to the highway yet but on dirt this thing is wild. i think this is the limits of power for safely controlling one of these old light weight trucks.
i will aso post some videos showing all of the problems i ran into and how to deal with them.

Funny you mention that; that's exactly what the owner was asking. I talked him down a bit though.

i am gonna vent the hood to help get rid of heat.
i replaced the knock sensors and it still hits 2k and it falls on its face.
so i am getting another ecu on tues so we will see what happens. im gonna retorque the head bolts and install the E-fans on tonight, and check the cam sensor.

Hey! I didn't know you were on here too! I posted on the albertasupraforums site. Which transmission do you have dreams of in the near future? Your g series probally won't last too long. I'm on w56 #3 right now. Thats with average casual driving and occasional "I'm gonna beat you" pulls

well that is not a good sounding future for my gear box.
i swapped out the ecu for another and it is still throws the code 52 and falls flat on its face at 2-2800 rpm. above or below that it is fine.
the knock sensors are good and i rewired it once. but it even acts this if i unplug the sensors. so i dont know wtf??

Are your knock sensors in the right holes? There are 3 holes in the block. the n/a version uses 1 sensor, the turbo uses 2. The n/a sensor goes in the middle hole, the turbo use the two outer holes and leaves the middle hole empty.

How did you re-wire the sensors? I followed a thread somewhere on the interporn and used shielded coaxial wire I picked up from a computer store. I grounded the shield in the cab near my ecu and my code went away.

Even with my code 52 it wouldn't fall on its face. That sounds more like an air/fuel ratio issue to me seeing as its only at 1 rpm range. does it make a difference if your real easy on the throttle?

as soon as i start it i can rev it up fine but about 30+ sec. after once it hits 2k it throws a code and stumbles until 2800 if it will get there without feathering it above. if i just crack the throttle it still stumbles just not as bad and the code comes on.
here is what it does.
