4.7 into 3rd Gen Runner

Does anyone know anything about this?

I was going to buy a 4runner, but I really want a 5 speed, the V8 and part time 4x4.

It occurred to me that it may be possible to put the 4.7 into a 3rd gen (where a 3.4 once sat) and use the 5 speed manual. I am aware that 5 speed's attached to 3.4's are rare, but I have a line on one.

My line of reasoning is that since the 3.4 and the 4.7 are shared in other platforms the engine mounts might align properly and they may mate to the same trans.

Is this a problem?

I think I could build one nice 4runner instead of buying one of the new ones.

TIA!

I would think you have two problems. 1) The engine bay on the 3rd gen is quite a bit smaller than that of a 1st gen Tundra. 2) the 4.7L never came with a 5spd option so the bell housing will not match from a 3.4L. I have herd of people making custom adapters and Bell housings and Flywheels for the 4.0L Toyota V8 so maybe there is a chance.

Good luck if you do it, and if you make a build thread.

Seems to me like the 3.4L and the 4.7 would have the possibility of sharing bellhousing patterns due to the fact that they both reside in Tundra trucks.....

Hmmm..

Yes all the Lexus LS400, SC400 and GS400's have the 4L V8. Its an awesome motor, light and revs nice and high.

Would it be a lot easier just to use the 5 speed that comes behind the 4.7? Would it even be possible?
