Which 4.0 are you looking at? 1UZFE or the new 4.0 that is in the 4runner and Tacoma. Which motor your looking at will help.

As for the 1UZFE, there are a few guys that have done the swap on here and they have done a really nice job. You just have to search.

Which ever way you go, back sure your start a build thread so you can keep track of how everything goes, and so we can watch.

I'm gonna go on a guess here and say that no one has done it and it's ridiculously hard and not worth it.

The 3.4L is an engine that doesn't mind power mods if done the right way. So what I've seen most people go with is the 3.0L -> 3.4L S/C swap, which is just about the same amount of power AND MORE as a 4.0L V6 swap.

I've looked into swapping the 4.0L V6 into my 4Runner and to sum it up it's just a lot of...well...yea...no. It's too much trouble and by the time you get around to it actually making more power than a good modified 3.4L you're better off buying a used Tacoma/4Runner and going that route.

I am currently out of stock on headlights, I will be starting another part out in the next month or two. Your welcome to pm and I will let you know as soon as I get some in. I am currently building a website that I hope to have up and running sooner rather than later, with all parts listed and pictures. I would really like to take this hobby of parting out 4runners and turning it into a business.

X2 with marko3xl3- the 4.0 V6 going to be a very hard swap to do, mostly because nobody has done it yet. The amount of custom fab work is going to be rediculous. If you did it, I would love to see it, but I think if your wanting to stay V6 then the 3.4 would work fine especially if you used the supercharger. I am collecting parts to do the 1uzfe swap on mine when I do it.

Post up when you decide which way your going.

Negative...several 4.0 swaps have been done:

but to the OP: skip the 4.0 and do a 4.7 Lexus swap--

OC thanks for the input, seems like alot of work for only getting the 4.0 V6. I would still have to say the 3.4 is a better choice simply for the number of people who have done them. More input and more brains to pick when doing the swap. If one is still convinced on doing a swap like this, why not jump to a V8 as modifications seem to be pretty close, oil pan clearance issues, fitting with a body lift ect, and other people are making tranny addaptors for the R150 tranny to the 1UZFe motor.

Just my 02.

Cebby started his like 5 years ago, started build threads on 10 different forums, and then never finished it. He does however provide some good info so its worth reading.

I have tried to pm cebby and email him with no response. Do you know why he never finished it? I was really hoping he had since I have the same platform he was working with. Does he plan on finishing it some day, or is he selling it off?

85toyman-

well I really dont want that V8. like i was looking at windancer's and i guess his Dynod out to pretty darn close to that of the V8. plus milage and what not. im a college student too so this thing is still my DD and i need all the milage i can get. so i really dont want a V8 and yeah it looks like Windancer's was a success story. just need to get past that oil pan and maybe a hood scoop and what not. we'll see I need to do A LOT more research. that 6 speed is calling my name too. boy would i love another gear. mmmmm boy!

Cool, just start a build so we can follow ya doing it...

Did you go with the Downey HD coils or just the standard coils? Have you been happy with the ride since you lifted it? I can't believe how much of a difference it made in the ride once I put the Ball Joint spacers and new rear springs on mine.

if you are a poor college student and worried about gas mileage...
park the 4runner and buy an old Corolla or Tercel for a DD.
Price of gas is starting to go back up...I am gonna get another beater car with my tax refund. 3 years ago bought an 89 tercel for $600, it paid for itself in 3 months and got a little over a year out of it before the head gasket blew...

When i bought my '05 tacoma I test drove both the 4 speed auto (what I ended up with) and the 6 speed...in stop and go traffic with the 6 speed it seems like all I was doing was shifting...

didn't know that Cebby never finished his. I thought he was still active over on Ultimate Yota..
Pirate & TTTORA both have several 4.7 swaps completed
