The input shaft is different, I just swapped valve bodys yesterday cause the lexus trans has 4 cylinoides and runner has only 3. I thought I had sensor problems on the motor cause it was running rough and reving slow and had a friend that's done the swaps walk me through what voltages should be over the phone.. everything checked out good, he said to start it with pulling one wire at a time to see if one doesn't change how it runs.. well all of the pass side ones made it run worst so i Started it with the drivers cover off and the drivers coil wire was sparking on the motor like CRAZY! Threw a diff wire off my spare 1uz and I can't even believe how amazing it runs.. revs fast and idles smooooth. I have a new video but the sound quality sucks.. as soon as I don't have customers cars in my shop I'm gonna go crazy on it and finish it.. I miss it like crazy., more updates soon.

It's not an easy swap. And anything before third gen 4runners and tacomas is even more work because of fitment.

I believe dimensionally the bay is bigger in 3rd Gen trucks and 4Runners. What I really wonder is if they are wider in the frame rails. Been looking for that info...going to a junk yard to get it measured out tomorrow I think.

Mine fits pretty well in my 86. The steering rod is close to the valve cover and the ac compressor is close to the frame, but I modified the frame and that put it really close. Everything else fits great and it looks as though it was meant to be.

I just did the measurements at the junk yard and the 2nd Gen is 23" between the frame rails where the engine mounts are and the 3rd Gen they are something like 26". When it cools off, I need get out and double check that 3rd Gen number. Over all, I definitely think the bay is larger in the 3rd Gen. Also, the steering setup is way different between the two generations.

The rack is way towards the firewall in the 3rd Gen while on the 2nd Gen, its way up in front about 6 inches back of the core support.

If someone did a frame off build would it e a good idea to cut the front of the gram off and widen it?

Would that be strong enough?

What tranny are you using?
