Very cool, has anyone talked to him? How much would you expect to buy in extra parts? A new engine would be great.

Is that really "newer" than any of the other rebuilt engines you see on craigslist? There are a bunch of them from places that spam all day with their inventory of rebuilts. Didnt get a chance to call, busy working

I guess they're factory rebuilt engines... don't know how much 'newer' they are than the other ones out there but they come with the basics; probably wind up with a decent bill for the rest of the small needed parts but it is a new engine sooo.... not so bad I think.

His name is Erik, talked with him via email a few months ago. This coming summer, one of 'em is mine....

Sent the guys at Toyonlyswaps.com an email. Their $3500 kit, at first sounded expensive. But honestly, if it really is all configured to bolt right into my truck. Sounds worth it to me. Hate spending so much more than 1k for the motor, but when you add in the amount of time that would save. its all money in the end, time or cash. Wonder if i should find my supercharger first and when if i do that, ship them the SC and wiring for them to set it up.

Unless you have a ton of cash in other expensive parts (SAS, gears, lockers, dual cases, etc.) I would take your $3500 and sell your truck and buy a 3.4 Taco/Runner.

Thats too much IMO

I am not saying not to to the swap. Just be on the lookout for a better deal than $3500 because that will turn into $4200 in no time as you get going.

Too much IMO.

Hmm found one that is still in a truck, that would come with most everything for $1750. 103k miles on it. Not bad

What would you pay for a 3.4L?

Paid $650 for my 5VZFE out of a wrecked 2002 V6 4runner. Motor to be installed into a 99 V6 SR5 2wd. This will be my first engine install and crossing my fingers that all will go smooth. I've heard that there is a difference with fuel injection unit. Anyone know of any other issues that I may have with this swap. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I've searched a few threads and found the 99 service manual which should help greatly.

when did throttle by wire start? that would be the only thing I can think of.. but if you already had the 5vz before, then you could easily swap your throttle body, etc... and technically still run your 99 ecu... Should be a freaking piece of cake compared to what we all have to do to swap the 5vz in place of the older 3vz engines. Good luck man.

*EDIT* Forgot to add what I originally planned on saying.. I got my motor off craigslist for 200 bucks. This was almost complete. It was missing the ecu.. And it had a spun rod bearing. Come to find out it had a hole in #4 piston too.. So after the rebuild I have around 800 into the motor.

Yeah got mine of craiglist too. Replacement engine has 110,000 miles on it and came with a 3 month warranty. Think the 2002 did have throttle by wire and someone also posted on another forum that maybe a few vaccum lines where different. This is my first 4runner so looking forward to posting pics when I have her up and running. Good luck with your swap.

I found one out of Fort Collins,Colo. for $1125, that included shipping to Northern Nevada. It had most items except the PS pump, altinator, air box and ECU. It did have the harness, the whole clutch and fly wheel, and throttle body. The trucking company delivered it to my house and even put it in the garage for me.

$300

I paid $300! It came from a 97 limited 4runner smashed in the ass end. 164,xxx miles. Well maintained, always at toyota. I got engine, engine auto harness, ecu, the entire body harness, all fuse boxes, all abs, anti skid, cc, security, airbag computers as well. Every wire/sensor etc in the 4 runner, and the engine with 164,xxx and the timing belt done at 110,xxx for $300! Knock on wood!!! It sounds strong! Craigslist find in Milwaukee Wi. I was living 200? mi away at the time in Marquette Mi and drove down there and picked it up in my ford focus station wagon. What a sight, wish i would have gotten a pic at least one of the two time I had it in there! I removed the board covering the spare tire, i removed the spare tire and replaced it with a tire w/ out a rim so i could set the oil pan in it for support and gain the well needed extra space. Fit perfectly! No bottoming out the entire ride home even with 2 passengers! Was able to use an engine hoist with just inches to spare. Kind of had to swing it in and lower at the same time. Any one else find this amusing?
