Vss

Ok so i've seen a few threads about this, but I haven't seen anyone go over this. I have a 95 runner with a 98 taco motor. Both are manual. The check engine light was on for awhile related to the O2 sensor heater and VSS. I drove it for a while and had the battery unhooked for some reason a few days ago, that reset the ECM. Went to autozone to use their code reader and the VSS code was gone but the O2 was still there. Changed the O2 for a OBDII compliant one and the CEL went away(I thought) Well driving home tonight it came back on, not sure what for. I need to get my hands on a scantool. But if it is the VSS, what should I do? I have a mechanical speedo and from what I've read this ECM needs and electrical one. Any ideas? Thoughts? I heard there might be a modulator you can make? This issue is really getting on my nerves

Take a look at your wiring diagrams. You have a manual speedometer but from the speedometer there is an electric vss that sends a signal to your ecm. You wires will be different but mine was IH1-20, G-L, Speed sensor to E5-12, G-0, Speedometer circuit control. My vehicles were a 1991 4runner and a 2000 Tacoma. There are a few different wires for the speed sensor on both vehicles and those are just the ones that I found worked by using real time data with my ODB2 scanner listing the speed.

also marlin sells this, little item
http://www.marlincrawler.com/transfe...eed-sensor-mci

but i'm not to sure about the whole VSS with the speedo cable dealio.

just look in your diagrams if you found a SPD or SPD1 connector on both harness, and plug them into each other...

I'd also recommend getting the Elm5 compact obdII scanner. check my post above.
