Transfercase crossmember-Engine placement
I have a 93 4runner, 22re/g58/chain driven transfercase. Plans are to swap in a 3.4, r150f trans out of a 3.0 truck, MC or Inchworm adapter and Rf1a tcase so I can run 4.7 gears. I kept the stock cross member out of my crawler (22re,w56, Rf1a) when I installed dual cases. If I use this cross member bolted up to the stock location in the 4runner will the transfer case adapter add too much length to the drive train and push the motor too far forward?
Also I really don't want to run a body lift or hood scoop if I can help it. I have the whole donor vehicle (97 4runner), to keep the motor low my plans are to cut the stock mounts out of the 97, clean them up, and weld them in once I get the motor placement figured out. Any other tricks to keeping the motor from poking out of the hood?

you cant avoid it, unless you lower the transmission and all other components. since you are replacing the entire powertrain custom mounting might do the trick. this is something my fabricator lives for.

The crossmember does not push the motor forward; the engine pushes (or pulls) the crossmember.
I have basically done what you are doing (in a pickup), and you may have to fabricate a crossmember.
You can try using the crossmember from a 1993 4Runner 3.0 (basically just your truck, but the 3.0 version). You might get lucky and have it bolt up.
Check out my swap thread; I have pics on how I did my crossmember.
