Soon to join the ranks...
This:

Plus this:

Should be picking up the 98 in a couple of weeks. This will be a SLOW process. I work insane hours, have a very small garage, and I don't even have an air compressor wired at the house.
Hope to have it done by July 4 for Crawl-4-the-Cure in MN.

Picking up the 4Runner tomorrow...
I couldn't turn it down for the price and mileage, but it looks like it may bite me a bit as well.. It's an Auto..
So other than the ECU, what else do I NEED from an MT vehicle? Do I NEED an MT wiring harness? My 88 is a 3.0/R150.

Left at 7am.
Parked the truck in the yard, trailer still attached, 4Runner still there... at 9:40PM.
About 850 miles on the Tundra today, with the help from my buddy Mike. Average about 10.8MPG on the Tundra (06 DC) at ~75MPH... Bucked a headwind the way down, side-winds on the way back.
I'm sure my neighbors love me.

Looks like your missing the EVAP and the airbox from the donor. Your gong to need those.
You could always run one of the those cone filters. I am not a fan of those but I know that some guys are.
Also, from the pic it appears the wiring has been removed from the firewall through to the ECM. You have all that correct?

At this point, since it looks like I'll need an ECU & VSV (email sent to seller, as it was supposed to be there), I'll likely source a 5-speed wiring harness as well. Even though it looks like I could re-use my adapter and run the Auto, I really like the current interior setup, so I'm going to start pulling this apart next week and completing an inventory of what I have, what I need... and selling as much as I can to pay for the missing pieces and a new clutch... and possibly re-building my spare 5-speed since this one has about 230K. And.... then maybe throwing my hydro-assist, rear disk brakes and a couple of other things that i've been putting off for away too long... lol...

I could have had a V8!

My duddy Hogan was instrumental in helping me get the 4Runner back here. He stopped over today (thank you again!) and helped me get the body off and ready for screp. Here's how things were when Hogan left - I have pulled some parts since then.

All the wiring from the truck...

And cross-over. Need to get over to Odies to have him guid me through some delicate cutting/welding... The Catalytic Converter is PART of the collector... Dumb design.
Anyone have any advise for separating the heat shield from the cross-over?
I really need a bigger garage... There's really not much room to the right of the truck...

I need to pickup the engine hoist before getting anything else done. The more I dig into this thing, the less impressed I am with Toyota or the deal I got on the truck. Thinking now I'm going to do a compression and leak down test... And likely at least full gaskets...
There was 1/2 a quart of sludge in the airbox tube. I expected some - it was rolled - but not this much or this bad.
And I think I found a VERY easy solution for the fuel lines... with a stock Toyota part.

What I learned today...
Compression is great.
Toyota engineers are a-holes...
Getting the tranny off the engine... while in the truck... is a PITA. I can think of at least 15 things that would be very easy - minor - engineering changes to make this thing easier to work on. Not a fan of the way the converter bolts to the flex plate... Ended up having to pull everything as a unit. PITA.
Next - get things sold (CraigstList buyers are currently pissing me off. Don't want it? Don't tell me you'll buy it and that you're on the way. Morons.), picking up a gasket kit and starting to get things cleaned up. Haven't decided what oil pan I'm running yet. Likely going to be the 3.0... not sure I need the rear sump.
