repinning auto harness to manual. Can it be done?
Ok so I have the 3.4 swap done and everything runs great with no trouble codes. Thread is here. I currently have the 340F auto and the 97 Runner transfer case hanging there connected to nothing.
Currently I am gathering everything do install dual cases and while I am doing that I am going to go back to manual.
After talking to ride4fun via PM he states that his swap runs great by jumping the neutral safety wire this making the ECM think that its in neutral and running fine. He states that everything works great!! However, he does get trouble codes for the transmission operation. I know that 904 RUnner has the same setup and it works flawlessly as well. This will not work for me in California and be hassle free from the "man", which I want to be.
I completed the swap some time ago and still look daily for a manual harness knowing that I would go back eventually. I have yet to find one unless the idiot wants $450 for it and there is no way in hell i would ever pay that for a harness.
So my thoughts are making what i have work. People smarter than me, please weigh in and tell me if I have gone mad.
Thinking of using my auto harness, buying new Manual harness connectors and then repinning my auto into the manual plugs thus leaving out the auto trans functions. I realize i would need an ECM but that isnt hard to find, again its the damn harness.
I would have to rip out all those manuals and EWDs and study again but does anyone see a reason why this would not work?

i am new to this stuff but i have been reading for days. i am also in the same situation, trying to make mine CA legal but have all the auto stuff with a manual trans. i read a thread on here about someone putting resistors in place of the shift solenoids to fool the ECU into thinking it is plugged into a trans. i plan to try this, who knows if ill get past the referee or not though.

As far as the resistor idea goes, I have read that as well. However, I have searched for that info for about a year now and have yet to actually find someone that has made that work.
That will absolutely never get by the ref. At least the guy in Fresno.
Vital what do you see as the leads that I would be lacking in the harness and need to run myself?
Also, gotta get with you on that AC as well soon. Its getting hot here in Ca. SHould be 105 everyday in a few more weeks

E9, E10, E11, and E12 are the same from a 97 4runner harness with an auto trans to the 98 4runner harness with a manual OR auto trans. They used the same plugs on both in 98 that they used for only the auto in 97. Get the ewd's and make sure they are pinned the same, but the ecu plugs fit.

you can use the following right. t100 / tacoma / and some 4runners. That's the harness i'm using a 98 4runner 4x4. The funny thing for that every mufflershop i've called to research for cats tells me the 98 4runner 3.4 doesn't exist. LOL Lies!
I'll keep my eye out at the local yards for a harness. There was a ton when they had that cash for clunkers deal. I should have grab'd as many harness and ecu's as possibly.

Hey Greg!! Good to see your post.
I'd prefer to stay with the Runner only because I have read that some Tacomas and T100's come with an EGR that I dont have and that should trigger a code that I do not want to deal with adding.
Thanks but before you go and grab on for me, let me know what they are running, or what you would want for it, because it may be more than I am willing to spend. I guess you could always sell it to someone else however.
Thanks
Jason

talking about a possibly way to build the harness....
http://www.aemelectronics.com/files/...rness_apps.pdf
http://www.aemelectronics.com/ecu-pa...s-30-2994-1065
but look around.... i'm sure you can find something that will work and you can make it your self. actually i think megasquirt sells the connectors.
http://www.diyautotune.com/
http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/diypnp-c-75.html
contact them and see if they have just the ecu side, and then you can build your own harness.

Read that link it's pretty spot on, on building your own adapter harness.

is your truck a 92, meaning it didnt come stock with an OBD2 port. you should just hide your OBD2 port, pull the bulb out of your check engine light, and let them do the emissions test as a 1992 . that way they just put it on the dyno and let the sniffer do the work and bypass all the OBD2 stuff.

There is only a couple pins that are different (meaning size) from the auto to manual harness's. Everything else will just simply go into the opposite plug.
The early model manual 3.4 plugs are the same as the 3.0 ECU plugs.
I simply cut the ECU plugs off the 3.0 harness and then repined everything from the auto 3.4 harness into the 3.0 plugs and got a 3.4 ECU. If a pin need to go into a space that it would not fit in I would just solder a new pin onto that wire so it would go into that space (hole) in the new manual plugs.
First thing to do is get a 3.4 manual ECU. One that you know the year of.
