Which radiator for 3.4 swap, 88-89 4Runner/88 Truck V6

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE REPLYING!!

Anyone who has done a swap on a STOCK 1988-1989 4Runner, or 1988 Truck that was originally a V6, which radiator did you use?

Stock OEM radiator has a 45 degree inlet which makes using the OEM 3.4 hose impossible.

Aftermarket radiators that I am finding have either the 45 degree inlet, OR the radiator cap on the side of the top, instead of centered. Later model (90+ 4Runner and 89+ Truck) radiators don't seem to work because the hood hits the cap.

I am not interested in Radiator drops (which I did on my 87) nor body or hood lifts or hood trimming. I know it can be done, I have seen it!

Or....does anyone know of a radiator shop in the greater seattle area who can modify my radiator?

We used an aftermarket 2nd gen radiator. Still has a very slight bend to it but no way close to hitting the hood.

Brass tank means cut and make the radiator inlet obey your desires.

I thought about that but the stock radiator had seen the milkshake too.

It said 88-89 4runner v6.... It was shaped different than my original rad and i had to drill some holes in the mounting tabs to drop it an inch or 2.... It may be a 90-95 rad....

So we found out that the brass tanked radiator had steel stamped in outlets. We were planning on just cutting and soldering the brass but as we were wire brushing to clean, we discovered that it was a steel outlet. This makes it a lot easier now so we just cut the outlet rotated it to make it straight and welded it in place. The upper hoses look great now.

Yep yep.

To "conclude" this thread, he is absolutely correct! Time will tell if it will leak or not, but it appears to work for now.

Sorry, late to the party on this one, but for future reference for others. I used a stock replacement from Rockauto.com. for my 88 4runner. It was an aluminum core with plastic tanks, so this allowed me to use the "red" long life fluid that was in the 3.4 from the factory, since the 3.4s original T100 radiator was the same construction. I used the following hoses from NAPA.

Upper: 7559 (cut to fit)
Lower: 7571 (used unaltered)
