oil pressure with a loud tick

my oil pressure at idle is reading on the L and then i have a loud ticking comming from a lifter i think. i heard i might need an oil pump but i dont want to spend all tthat money if it wont fix it. when the oil pressure is at half when the truck is warming up theres no tick...please help

Im guessing you have a 22re? Oil pressure controls the timing chain tensioner, therefore, the ticking sound you are hearing is the untensioned timing chain.

So yes, im pretty sure you need a new oil pump.

and the ticking definatley sounds like its comming from under the valve cover

I have this too. It goes away after an oil change for about the first 100 miles then slowly comes back. I'm not losing oil. (Anymore!)

Oh okay, i was thinking 22re.

Have you tried using slightly thicker oil?

i figured out the loud ticking noise... i feel awfully stupid because it wasnt the motor. it was a relay behind my evap canister. when i unplugged it it stopped immediatley.
