Which oil pan to use in your 3.4L swap
#81
If you're ok with your setup looking like billy bobs backyard heehaw show did it, as well as a stick that doesn't read right, of course you can scrap it together. Myself I like a nice clean install and the peace of mind knowing its done right and looks professional. Especially for the few extra bucks it costs. We aren't talking about paying $100 for a dipstick, and when you're doing something as involved as an engine swap why not just take your time and do it right.

Did the 3.0 pan work?
I used my original 3.0 oil pan from a 94 4wd 4runner with IFS, 95 2wd Tacoma 3.4 original baffle
Pickup tube- Toyota 15104-62070
Dipstick - Toyota 15301-62060
Dipstick Guide - Toyota 11452-62060
Dipstick Guide O-Ring - 96721-19010
Union - Toyota 90405-10033
My question is how much oil should it hold? Just go by the dipstick?

I don't think I ever answered this question.
The T100 Pickup tube you use is from a 4WD, when bolting the 3.4 into a 4WD application. They are not different sumps, since the 95+ T100 3.4 and 88-95 3.0 use the exact same pan. The difference is in the Pickup tube, and the baffle.
I have also done many more of these swaps, and found it is much easier to cut a hole in the 3.4 baffle and use the 3.0 4WD pickup tube, instead of paying the $75 for the T100 pickup tube which is routed around the baffle instead of through it.

Running into oil pan problems on my 1992 2WD 3.0 auto swap. My motor is out of a 2wd 96 T100 auto, the 3.4L T100 pan hits this crossmember that looks like its linking the lower control arms.
Its pretty close, but still not going to work... I may be able to get it to fit if I remove the crossmember, drop it in, and then try and bolt the cross member back up.
Heres a pic, you can see it hitting here.

Alright, yanked the motor back out and swapped over the pan from the 92 2wd 3VZE, the 3vze pan hits the 3.4 pickup, so I pulled off the pickup, pan fits. I grabbed the pickup off the 3vze and moved it over, looks like it will fit but I will need to cut some holes in the 3.4 baffle so I can actually bolt it in there.

Yes, the 4WD 3.4 T100 and the 4WD 3.0 Share the same oil pan. You only need a T100 2WD oil pan if you have a Solid front axle swap
The base model 2WD truck requires a 3.0 2WD pan, which the T100 never had. Match the pickup with the pan it originally came with in this case. And yes you'll have to cut one hole in the baffle for the support arm of the oil pickup tube to pass through.

Here are some comparision shots.
Left is T100 2wd pan, right is the 3vze 2wd pan
you can see the small dip here in the pan which is needed to clear the crossmember

and with the 3VZE pan on the 3.4L motor, the pickup will not clear the pan. So I had to take the 3VZE pickup and swap it over. But like you say the pickup hits the baffle, so needed to cut a hole in the 3.4L baffle, then you can access a bolt hole and secure it up there.
The second leg of the 3VZE pickup does not have a bolt hole on my 96 T100 3.4 to bolt up too, so I just chopped it off, seems fairly secure still so I think I will be fine.
You can see here with the baffle removed where the 3VZE pickup can bolt up, the Red square has a bolt hole, the yellow leg does not and needs to be removed.

So I am trying to rectify the stupid decision that the original owner made to use a 3.0 oil pan after SASing my Tacoma. I am putting in the proper SAS 2WD T100 pan. However after getting the pan off I find that the new pickup tube's studs are blocked by the baffle. From what I've read in this thread it looks like he not only used the 3.0 pan but also the 3.0 baffle. My predicament is I don't see how the hell this baffle is being held on. What am I missing here?

So my dipstick isn’t registering any oil. I’m using a 99 4Runner 3.4 so I had to drill the block and I used the 92 dipstick, dipstick tube, union and pan and I’ve put over 6 quarts in but nothing really registers on the dipstick I can see some oil up above the full mark but that’s it. I even tried the 99 dipstick and it’s the same I know that my hole should be drilled out right because I bought the drill jig from toyonlyswaps

Don’t use the 3.0 dipstick and tube on a 99 runner block! I tried and it never did register properly! You would pull the dipstick and nothing would show up on it! I swapped over to the t100 3.4 dipstick and tube and it works perfectly and actually fits like it should! Thanks @DeathCougar
