5 speed and 3.4 swap advice needed

Looking for a little wiring advice before I get started

Donor: 1997 4Runner 3.4 4x4 5 speed
Donor: 1988 4Runner 3.0 4x4 5 speed
Recipient: 1988 4Runner 3.0 auto
I'm 3.4 and 5 speed swapping my truck. I have both complete donor vehicles. Does it make sense to swap in the 88 5 speed main harness to keep all of the factory connections for clutch switch, clutch start cancel, and cruise? I'll also be using the 5 speed cluster. Anything to look out for?

Thanks!

Short answer: You can do either.

You can leave the auto harness and save some time/labor and you won't have any problems. The cruise control is actually connected to the gas pedal and isn't affected at all by the swap mechanics/wiring. It's one of the easier things to get back up and functioning (in a 1st Gen 4Runner.)

I have an 89 that started out as an auto as well. I had done a 5 speed swap to mine years before doing the 3.4 swap. I simply left the auto ECU, and soldered a few wires together to "trick" the (3VZE) ECU to think it wasn't in park. I never had any issues. That being said, I never had a functioning clutch start cancel button. When I did the 3.4 swap I left the auto ECU in place and had Off Road Solutions add the wiring for the clutch start cancel to my conversion harness. I bought an actual clutch start cancel button off eBay. Everything works as it should, and I didn't have to take the dash completely apart.

I used Off Road Solutions for the conversion harness and battery tray, and bought the crossover from yotashop.com since the price was the best when I did it about 2 years ago.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I guess the way to go is just wire in the csc button separately. Didn’t really want to tear the whole dash apart anyways
