I just finished my swap and everything is working great. What is the oil capacity of a 3.4 with a 3.0 pan on it out of a 88 4x4 four runner?

 

I dont know exact capacity, but my 88 3.0 4Runner takes 5 quarts and my 01 3.4 4Runner takes 6 quarts. I would start in the middle IF you do not get a definitive response.

 

I run 5.5 quarts in my 3.4`s one swapped into a 92 4Runner the other a 2000 Tacoma ever since I had them.

 

I'm looking for any answers into what I need to do to put the 3.0 oil pan pickup etc on the 3.4 engine I know people are using it but I can't find anything on the modifications they had to do thanks in advanced

 

I recently did my first oil change on my 90 pickup w/ 3.4 swap. Motor was swapped before i purchased the truck. It has an oil pan, dipstick, dipstick tube (and i'd assume pickup tube) from a 3VZ. I would *assume* that the oil pan used dictates oil capacity? I poured 5 quarts in and it seems to measuring close to the full mark on the dipstick. Research indicates 4.8QT capacity for the 3VZ and 5.5QT capacity for a 5VZ.

Could anyone confirm that the oil pan used does in fact establish the oil capacity of the 5VZ after swap is completed?

 

Best way to go about this would be to fill it with about 4.8 quarts to start as on paper that is the required amount of oil for the 3.0 3VZ. Once you fill it to that amount check the dipstick, if it needs more then add more.

Before I knew any better, I used to fill my 1st 3.0 3VZ in my 1990 4runner with 6 quarts of oil back in high school. As bad as it sounds, I never had an issue when I used to do that. I do not think you will have a problem filling it with 5.5 Quarts for what the 3.4 needs.

 

It will be between 4.8 and 5.7 U.S. Quarts depending on the setup. As stated, start with the vehicle on level ground and add 4.8 quarts, check the dip stick and add more. Remember depending on the capacity of the filter the level will drop more or less. I.e. My 77 fj40 filter holds almost one half a quart.
