i cant get it to work with either one of my code scanners. i have it wired up correctly i think.

purple to switched power
brown/red to engine gnd
white and black to body gnd
the white shielded wire was cut and spliced into the computer where it originally came from.
the brown wire in the shielded wire is hooked to ground on one end only.

the scanner will power up and try to communicate but will not get anything from the computer.

any ideas????????

 

I just go by pin numbers. I don't do well with colors. I'm red/green color blind.........Pin 4 and 5,the two grounds, you can ground them to the body. The power ( pin 16 ) can be from the fuse box (pre-ignition switch). Then the data line (pin 7) from "SDL" or "SIL" signal. There's no splicing.
You have to turn the ignition to "on" position to power the ECU.

 

that is exactly how mine is wired. maybe my computer is bad....

 

But it started....with chk eng light on?

 

it started. i dont have the engine light hooked up because i am running an auto computer and it would always have transmission codes. i was hoping to see the datastream to check MAF signal

 

does the bulb need to be hooked up for it to communicate?

 

You can try that. It doesn't make sense to me but......
IF you have a friend that has a scope, you can see if there's signal on that pin or not. Maybe your connector pins are not making contact?....I'm just spitting ideas out there....

Does the kick panel OBD2 fuse in post 9 come into play?

the power for the connector just runs through that fuse in a stock vehicle. If you have power to it, it shouldnt matter other than its not connected.

Highly unlikely for the OBD2 part of the ECM to go bad. have you ohmed it out with a meter?

 

True on the stock fuse....I didn't think that through with a swap.

 

the data line was cut in the shielded section by the previous owner. i spliced it back together and connected the white wire taped it off and them connected the shield wires together and taped the whole assembly off.

should i run a new wire in place of the old one since it was cut and put back together?

This should be the easiest wiring of the whole swap. i know the purple wire has power. the white/black and brown/red wires are both grounded together. the only wire that can be an issue is the shielded white wire from the computer.

 

Just solder the center wire together. Wrap the shield with another wire and then ground it.

Should work fine.
