Need a simple answer to 3.4 wiring
okay I plan on doing a 3.4 swap this spring i have a 91 4runner with a 3.0 i have a motor still need to get the harness out of the donor rig but all the research I've done they make wiring sound hard anyway if I were to have aftermarket gages for tach temp oil ect would I really have to worry about a body harness part? As long as I get power to ecu and can start it should be easy no?? I really wish there was a detailed description on the internet basic step by step if anyone in the tricitys wa area around pasco wa has a 3 4 swaped one I could look at that would be much appreciated thanks

Lol, well there's an entire subforum dedicated to doing 3.4 swaps. The wiring is not hard if you have the wiring schematics for the current vehicle and the donor vehicle.

If you can read wiring diagrams and know how to solders and crimp wires, you can do this.
I'm colorblind and I did it. Pass CA smog even.
There's a sticky thread with info on how to download all the wiring diagrams you need. It may take a while. Hope it's not your daily.
Good luck.

wire colors and sensors were changed from year to year and may even depend on where it was made, Japan vs America.
I started my swap by selling my 3.0 running and driving engine transmission and transfer case still wired up with the ECU to a fella in my neck of the woods who had a 4 runner one year different from mine.
It turned out that he kept his tranny, t-case, wiring and ECU because his 94 had a speed pickup on the t-case and my 95 had a cable. This left the wiring harness from mine lacking two wires that he needed.
Anyway, unless someone has done EXACTLY the same swap with the same donor as you they will only be able to tell you "whip out the specific wiring diagrams and start matching up circuits or buy a pre-made swap harness for your specific swap"

there are a ton of little details that will make or break your swap.
Are you cutting a hole in the hood or doing a body lift?
Will you be swapping oil pans? is your truck IFS or SAS?
If you make it happen in 3 days make sure to let us know, cuz that might be a record!

Day one: removed old engine and prepped engine bay
Day two: installed 5VZ and fired it before midnight
Day three: buttoned everything up, including exhaust.
Long days for sure, took 41 of the 72 hours to do it. Myself and four (?) others and no conversion harness or ready made exhaust crossover. Also, vodka.
On a side note, myself and two others did a 2nd gen 4runner in one day. .....so.....
