Not sure on a mod to change the 22re tach. It may be the same as the 3.0 as far as I know.
If it was me I would just grab a 3.0 tach from someone parting one out and then you know the resistor mod would work as described in my thread and many others.

I did this on my 92 22r/5vz truck, just adjust the rheostat while watching the data list on the scan tool - thats what I did and it works just fine. No need to buy another tach or solder anything on to it, it has the adjustment part built right in. I pulled out the speedo when I was doing this so I could leave the tach hooked up and plug in the instrument cluster and still reach the rheostat.

I was using a toyota scan tool, but pretty much any decent scan tool should be able to show you this as long as it has a data list function. (not the cheapie $30 units)
The rheostat is built into the tach. It takes a tiny flat head screwdriver (if I remember correctly). Once you take out your instrument cluster and take out the speedo you should be able to see it. If not take out the tach also and examine it up close, then reinstall just the tach and leave the speedo out until you get the tach dialed in right.

so just to refresh the info .. as to pertaining to my install ..
just adjusting the pentiometer or rheostat did NOT work .. I had to also do the resistor mod as well ..
resistor mod , and adjusted the rehostat to correct RPM .. worked and works great ..
