found these in yunkyard, will they work together?

While looking for 3.4s to replace the 3.0, I ran across these today. A 99 4runner (recent rollover) in otherwise great shape under hood, but and automatic. My truck is a 93 5-spd. Also found a 98 4runner with a bad motor but 5 spd. Can I combine 98 ECU and harness with 99 motor to make a swap package?

thanks

that's good to know. during my searches here, I thought I read about some changes to and incompatibility of the ECUs between 98 and older against 99 and newer.

thanks

I would think that as long as you get the motor harness and ECU together it should work fine. I don't see why the ECU would care what block you hook it up to. The only incompatibility issues I could see would be that maybe some of the sensor connectors on the motor might be different. I really doubt it though. Easy enough to check.

Might be issues with the MAF? I think they changed from 98 to 99? Possibly need to use the MAF from the 98? Anyone. Maybe try to get both motors if it isn't too expensive.

If you are going to get it..

You can use the automatic motor in your rig.. I got mine out of a 99 tacoma.

Now on the 98 if you get the harness and ecu. that end won't be a problem. If you end up with both harnesses then you will be fine. For what won't work/ you can splice the connectors that came with the good motor.

That is assuming there is a difference in plugs between the 98 and 99

I don't think any of the sensors or anything on the intake changed from 98 to 99. So you should be able to take the harness and ecu off the manual and hook it right up to the auto 3.4 block. All the plugs will interchange. Then it's just a manual swap...
