Found a motor, but i have some ?'s
So I found a motor out a 97 4Runner SR5 3.4 with a manual trans... 200k on it for mileage...
I can get everything i need for the swap for $500 which i know is a smoking deal.
Is 200K to high mileage?
What should i look/lookout for when i go to look at it?
Other than the motor, harness, ecu, vsv's, evap, airbox, exhaust pieces... what else do i need to pull off the donor vehicle?
Any tips that anyone can give me would also be great.
Oh and it is going into a 93 runner with a 3.0 that was an auto but i swapped in a r150f... does that complicate the wiring at all?
thanks,
Ryan

Mine came out of a 97 Tacoma. The timing belt sticker said it had been done at 296 000 kms, which is pretty close to 200,000 miles. Now, that said, it was pretty clean in the oil pan and the compression was solid across the board, so whether it had been replaced at some point, I don't know. I never ran the VIN, because I was on a time constraint. I've put around 60,000 miles on it since the swap and have had zero issues.

If your using a R150 from your 91 toy that i assume is a manual you can. However i found out the hard way that a flywheel from a 3.0 doesnt match the bolt pattern as a 3.4 pressure plate. with the clutch parts dont mix and match is what im trying to say. The 3.4 components are stronger and are meant for the bigger power. IMO i think its better to run the stuff from the 3.4 and yes the starter bolts up with no problem to the R150 trans (3.0 manual)

for sure grab the obd2 port above the gas pedal.
I didnt like the 3.0 throttle cable and used the 3.4 although most guys have had no issues with the 3.0 cable.
AC amplifier if you have ac
I like the "snorkle" in the fender. I would pull the passenger fender and take that.
If you are taking it apart, make sure you grab the body harness plugs and cut back the wires into the truck as far as possible. DO NOT CUT ANY OF THE WIRES ON THE MOTOR HARNESS.
I would grab the circuit opening relay on the driver kickpanel fusebox. Its on the bottom of the panel.
I would try to grab all the shifter parts including all the plastic in the cab.
Wiring should be fairly straight-forward going manual to manual.
If you are pulling yourself, mine did not have both hooks so check that before you show up with your crane and nothing to attach it to on both sides
Good luck and be sure to post your progress!!
I'll post back if I think of more

Is it bad if you dont grab it?

where i this located, i read about it but never saw anyone wire it in

So other than the motor harness going to the ECU i need as much of the body harness as possible too?

Never read about this either, what does it do?

I did a manual swap from an a340 to a r150f, does that complicate the wiring?

You have to have it. Its how you "talk" to your motor and it "talks" to you when there is a problem.

Look in my thread. Its in there somewhere from Vital22.

Yes. This is how you wire things like oil pressure, water temp, EFI power, etc. to your existing wiring

Fancy name for fuel pump relay. I think that some guys use the one in their existing vehicle but I think that the newer way is easier, but I havent actually got that far yet so take that with a grain of salt.
