custom xover fit issues

i did a custom homemade xover and when i bolted it up and mated the engine to teh tranny... The flange that connects to the xover now is too close to the torsion bar, and I am unable to put the heat shield back on... can i shave that flange bolt material closest to the torsion bar? do i need the heat shield?

I think that you could grind that flange. I did a little on mine. I would think that you would be OK so long as you do not get too close to the bolt holes/studs (I replaced my studs with nuts and bolts) and where the seal donut will go.

Also, I have not been running my heat shield since the swap. Has not burned down yet.

I think that we can try to bend it alittle bit. I'll grab a pipe that fits nicely inside the exhaust and we'll see if we can get it to move, only needs 1/2" or so.
